When the defrag locks up like that and this gose for any operating system your useing is because there is a program not responding to close in order to be move. You need to run another program to find the trouble before running defrag again.

To do this when you reboot your computer hit the F8 key and you will find options, choose safe mode. This will load just enough drivers to get your machine going and may solve your problem. Also what might be better for you initially is to do a scan disk FIRST. This will fix any errors your hard drive may have then do the DEFRAG. Your programs will run much faster and more smoother
