cable remote will mute sound, but won't raise or lower it

  • Anonymous Feb 29, 2012

Thanks, the cable remote, to a Motorola cable box, does change the channels and mute the sound, but won't raise or lower the sound, actually, I get the little white volume indicator marks across the top of the creek, but the vol does not change, I used to get a blue bar for the vol across the bottom of the screen, but not now. Also can't get the input source menu to come up, have to get to it via the manul buttons on the side of the set.... out of ideas... any thoughts? thanks

Since your specifying cable remote I take it that your not using the remote that came with the Sony Bravia. Not all remotes will operate all functions of all devices. The cable remote may not have the correct coding for the TV your trying to control.

SOURCE: sony bravia kdl-52w3000, turn tv on, no picture or

Most likely this is caused by a defective main board. Changing the main board will fix the issue about 95% of the time.

To be absolutely sure, the voltages need to be checked on the power supply. If they are not the values listed in the service manual, then you should replace the power supply instead (accounts for the other 5% of the time).

SOURCE: my sony bravia has no audio when used as cable tv

Check the connections between the cable box and the TV. If you are using scart check the connector is in squarely if using rgb or composite you need a separate audio connection using the red and white phon sockets.

MY tv that goes straight to the screensaver mode like it would on pc. sony bravia kdl32nl140 is the tv.

J, it sounds like it may not be getting any input from cable or satellite, try switching cable and inputs around, try VCR or DVD player. You may need a firmware or software update.
Some forums say to unplug and wait 10 min. then it resets.

With my Sony Bravia 46" xbr the screen keeps cutting out. I'm usig hdmi cables and can't find a reason why te tv keeps cutting out. The sound still remains but picture doesn't. Not even out technician can...

Usually this happens to my set when I am in HD cable channel mode after being on a non-digital ANALOG channel.

I basically reset the TV by changing to a DIGITAL cable channel -- stay on that channel for ten-twenty seconds -- then I switch back DIRECTLY to a HD channel (key in channel number directly on remote).

TV works fine -- seems to be a glitch when the TV changes modes from Analog to HD

My Sony Bravia KDL-40D3000 no longer responds to the IR remote. I also have a 46 inch Bravia, and the remote does work with it. The front panel controls work okay. The remote worked for about 2 years, then...

Had the same problem. The infrared receiver quit working. Could not use the factory remote or the cable remote. Simple fix- I just cleaned the infrared receiver. Both remotes now working.

Sony Bravia Dav-HDX279W and comcast HDTV Cable box connection.

Like above, use an optical connection (need fiber optic cable) or a coaxial connection (single RCA cable). HDMI might also work, but I personally haven't checked. Connect the audio outs from the cable box to the audio ins on the home theater. The TV will only need a video connection from the cable box, as well as one from the home theater (for DVDs, onscreen menus).

This discussion can help you set up the universal remote.

Toshiba HDTV + SONY PLAYSTATION 3 + SONY Home Theatre DAVHDX265

I have looked up the infomation on your TV I noticed that your TV has two HDMI input plugs. Since your SONY BRAVIA is hooked up to one port, you need to buy another HDMI cable for your PS3. On your tv remote you should have an option to switch from video 1 to video 2 so then you can switch from the SONY BRAVIA to the PS3 the problem is you will only hear your PS3 Sound from you TV. If you want to hear your PS3 sound from your SONY BRAVIA you need to buy an optical cable (also called TOSLINK) to connect from your PS3 to the SONY BRAVIA.

Hope that helps!
