A 13 year old relic of the past pulled out of the attic or found at a garage sale for 50 cents.?
hp has no support for this, its now a relic retired state there.
some have 2 batteries , one is soldered down. oops.
first google hit.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OpGzA5Xl4J0

google finds then non HP manual , that HP deleted.
here free, give the new batt. 4 hours to charge.

RTM?
read page 27 , carefully and the gravity of these words

"Keep the battery charged.
The programs and files you install or create are stored in volatile RAM memory. If the battery
completely discharges, all user-installed programs and user data files
created will be erased and you will have to reinstall them. To prevent
losing valuable programs and files, keep the battery always charged.
Optionally, you can store a limited number of programs and files in the
iPAQ File Store folder so that if the battery completely discharges, they
will not be lost."
the store, is a NVram?, not flash. and the STORE has a battery
what is the chances of any 13year old battery still good.(zero?>)

see the coin cell here, it unplugs other models are soldered down.

ITS BEEN A WHILE SINCE - 1710-0bqeoaofrldpq4t1wllrhfnq-1-0.jpg why spend cash on old relics like this. and labor?
so you learned to day it has 2 batteries not 1
and learned it is 13 year old relic of the past, 100% useless in todays world. (buy notepad new for $50 at walfart)

Try replacing the battery. Then try a factory reset.

SOURCE: hp ipaq 5550

To do a full reset, you hold the calendar and itask buttons (buttons 1 and 4) down at the same time, then insert the stylus into the little hole on the bottom and press gently. Hold all for 4 seconds. The screen should begin to fade. Now release all. If successful, you will not be able to start the machine by pressing the on button. You will have to reconnect to ac power to start it.

That is all there is to it.

You could have a corrupted program on your PDA. You need to contact HP and have them re-flash or upgrade the firmware of your PDA and it should work much better than before.

Have a great day!

HP ipaq with navtec gps software and sd card fails

Ok, nice job Robert,

I'm posting your solution here to remove it from the unsolved problems list.

Solution by Robert:
This problem was finally resolved as a corrupted map file on the SD memory card in the hp ipaq 5550. Solution was to reformat the memory card using fat32 memory format. I used a SD memory card slot on my laptop and right click the drive letter and select format to format the memory card. After that, I reloaded map files to the memory card and all was OK. Note that previously I had loaded map files on the memory card successfully but that was not good enough. A reformat of the memory card was apparently needed.
I had also previously tried a hard full reset of the ipaq by pressing and holding the lower two buttons (calendar and itask) while holding in the reset button with the stylus for 5 seconds and resynced my contacts and reloaded the gps software, but this was to no avail. Try the re-format.
