The lid swtich is bad take a look at this page http://www.appliance-repair-it.com/washer-not-spinning.html

if it agitates and pumps out water it is not the lid switch.  you most probably have a bad brake/clutch mechanism.  the fact that it spins tells me the transmission is good 

motor is bad...hope this helps

Manually turn the knob to the spin cycle and turn it on.
If it does not spin, replace the lid switch.

If it does spin, replace the timer.

Larry, tell Mom to check the lid switch. If it's broken there will be no spin or drain..
