Replacing a Vizio Backlight Inverter

We purchased our 42in Vizio LCD FHDTV a couple years ago. Today, it started to "fizzle" (flashing slightly) then would shut off. The sound continues, just the screen went black. We are thinking that the backlight inverter board may need to be replaced. The part number is: LC420WU 6632L-0481A. We found a couple retailers online who are selling parts from broken TVs and one retailer from China who is selling the board new. Does anyone have any suggestions or information that could confirm that our thoughts on the issue being the backlight inverter board? Also, if anyone has any a suggestion on where to purchase this piece? Thanks!

I have a television that did this. The picture went out but it continued to have sound. It was the projector bulb. I ordered from a dealer on ebay, very resonably priced. It came with instructions on how to install it and was a very easy fix.

You might want to check the VIZIO website for help. Given how cheap even 4K UHD TV's are today, probably not worth fixing again. Unless under warranty, of course.

VIZIO 42in LCD HDTV - Dark colors and flickering
It sounds that the back-light CCFL lamp is faulty. It is time to replace it. When replacing, do it to all CCFLs, because, the life time to these lams are expiring now, as the set is nearly 4 years old. Where do I purchase a backlight for my vizio 42in tv? And the price?
you cant the backlights are an integral part of the LCD panel. The backlight inverters Boards) can be replaced but the actual backlights are inside the LCD panel assembly.

How difficult is it to replace backlight inverter on a LCD TV?
Replacing LCD inverter board is very easy.Does not involved in any soldering.It a long board in shape.Just take ur tv aparts,use a Philip screw driver take out 6 Philip screws each board and connections.Do the reverse to install the LCD inverter boards.Tries Websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy refurbish LCD inverter boards.

That is exactly what it is. Mine, as well, (1yr and 4mos old) went out. But my sound, eventually, went out as well. However, I was lucky and had the two year warranty and it was covered. Apparently this is an issue. The fella's that picked up the TV made the remark that "this is another one".

Backlight Fizzle
Look at the power supply first for bad caps, the transistors for back light inverter may have been damaged also when the caps went out. See example of failed monitors due to bad caps: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums

Vizio GV42L LCD TV screen black when turn TV on first time
If you are using a set top box this might be caused by turnig the box on at the same tie as you turn the tv on or slightly after you turn the tv on.  If you are using compnent or HDMI inputs the set needs to see the signal as it is turned on to know what formt the signal is in.
