Have had this sys for about 2 years and recently moved it to another room but when re-installed it would only play through the headphones.
Moved it back to its original position but it hasn't corrected the problem.
Hi I've just fixed this problem on my DAV S400. It's down to dry joints on the Amp PCB. Very simple to fix if you know how to works a screwdriver and soldering iron!
Take the cover off and with the back of the unit facing you, you'll see teh amp PCB in the left hand corner to the back. At this time its the wrong way up to fix it so you'll have to remove the Ariel connection box and the speaker connection PCB both are very easy to do. Lay these out of harms way but do not disconnect any of their ribbon cables as its not needed. Now you can unscrew the amp PCB which is bellow both boards you have just removed. Disconnect the phono wire from the PCB (keep a note of that) and disconnect the power lead to the PCB on the right. Up turn the PCB and remove the copper heat sheild. You should now find the dry joints. The phono plug you just disconnected fits into a multi socket on the PCB. This will probably be loose or have more than one dry joint. Re-solder all these making sure not to link any together. Now find the large brown capacitor and check these joints and if needed re-solder. Check for any other dry joints while at this stage if any look slightly poor give them a quick dab with the soldering iron but make sure you don't fry a chip!!. Re-assembele remebering to reconnect the phono wire. I allways check before putting the case back on. This worked for my S400 after my 18 month old got hold of it. Good luck!

make sure youre sound drivers are still intact, re-install them and make sure that the correct settings in youre sound program is used eg. it may try to play through headphone jack instead of speakers
Sound Loss in Dell Computer Headphones b> Most Dell computers have special hardware and software that are set up to automatically adjust the configuration of the headphone ports when headphones are connected, muting the primary speakers in the process. If no sound is coming out of your headphones, this is most likely caused by a configuration issue that can be resolved with a few simple steps.
Basic Headphone Troubleshooting If no sound is coming from your headphones, confirm that the headphones work properly by using them with a different device. After this, confirm that the headphones are plugged into the proper jack. If your CD/DVD drive has a headphone jack in front, audio will only be played through this jack when you are playing a disc. On a desktop computer, the correct jack to use for headphones is usually color-coded green, while notebook computers will have headphone icons next to the correct jacks. Finally, check the speaker icon in the system tray to make sure that your sound output is not muted. b> Troubleshooting Notebooks b> Most Dell notebooks use a special type of audio jack. The jack, along with the sound drivers that are installed, automatically detect whether headphones or speakers are plugged in and adjust the sound output accordingly. If this does not happen when headphones are plugged in, the sound drivers may be at fault. Visit the Dell support website and download the most recent sound drivers for your notebook. If this does not help, some users have reported success with removing the sound drivers completely and letting Windows install generic drivers automatically. Last Resort b> If all other options have been exhausted, the last resort in troubleshooting a headphone jack is running a complete system recovery operation. This will completely erase all of the information on your primary hard drive partition and reinstall Windows along with the drivers for all of your hardware. This is an extreme measure, as you will lose all of the information that you have stored on the hard drive. However, it will resolve the issue if it is caused by a software problem. If the issue remains, the headphone jack must be replaced. Hope this helps.
1. Your PC sound card has an input for a headphone . If your desktop is mounted on the floor then you will need an extension for the headphones/ found at the local Radio shack for about 6.00 dollars. If you have a recent production of a PC cabinet there should be an input for your headphones. 2. Your desktop speaker if updated you should have a headphone jack there also to input a headphone set. 3check your user manual for this.
The speakers may be damaged, if you think water damage is the reason that the speakers are broken then follow these steps,
1. Unplug headphones.
2. Take you iPod to a dark place i.e room with light off.
3. Take a flash light and shine it in the headphone jack
4. Look inside the headphone jack.
5. If you see something red it is likely that your iPod got water in it and the speakers are shot.
Hope this helps,

hello colin you gat to try ear phones maybe it would work.if it doesnt are you sure during the installations there wasnt a warning ask who so ever did it for you and confirm
what are the things that you added recently, hardware(additional hdd, memory, video card) or software (antivirus, office, etc games.) try running a hard drive diagnostics, usually computer manufacturer install a hdd diagnostics on their BIOS that you can run. hit me back on the results.
Check if your PC can play audio on some other speakers or headphone.
If yes, check your monitor audio cable connections.
If no something's wrong with your PC audio drivers. Try re-installing them or could be a hardware issue with your PC. Get it checked.
THE SOLUTION KINDLY POSTED BY MARK TO A PREVIOUS PROBLEM SHOULD FIX THE SOUND ON THIS ONE AS IT WOULD APPEAR THAT THERE ARE INHERENT PROBLEMS WITH THIS MODEL AND THE SOUND OUTPUT
