Frequently, my TV will shut off after being on for approx. 5 min. If I don't do anything it will eventually (aftr 20 min or so)come back on and stay on. Sometimes it cycles on/off a couple of times before settling down and behaving. Is the TV about to go completely or is it worth finding someone strong to carry it downstairs and into a repair shop?

Re: 32" crt TV
Sounds like a simple cold solder connection on the circuit board somewhere. If the sets less the a few years, Yes I would say its probably worth the time and money to repair.

Sounds like a problem I had with a Polaroid t.v. Take the cover off the back and look for capactors that are buldging on the top. The top should be slightly concave. If they are convex at all, you can buy new one at Radio Shack and replace them for under $5.00
Hi: Sounds like it might be an overheating part, and the short is shutting of the set. Or it could be an intermittent connection in the pc board. Either case it would have to be repaired by a expert. sorry.
check for sleep mode and whether the timer for sleep mode is on or not, if sleep mode is on lets say 30 min or 5 min , ur TV will turn off automatically after that much time
