Yes, there are LCD Rear Projection TV's. I have two of them. One of them has spot like someone else mentioned. The warranty company opted to pay me off (not enough though) instead of repairing. I'm told that the light engine is going out and it is at least $1000.00 to fix. I have the same problem with "spots" on the screen. Fortunately it is under warranty, but unfortunately the warranty company opted to buy me out instead for not enough money to replace. I spoke with a repair company and they say that the light engine is going out and it is not worth fixing. They said it is at least $1000.00 to fix. Eventually more spots will appear and the screen will get very dim or go blank completely.
I do not have this TV but I have a LG rear projection LCD - RT52SZ30RB and it has blue patches across the screen. I have had it for 3-4 years but the blue patches have been there for 1-2 years. It seems to be common with this model but no solution posted yet. Could it be lens alignment or dust on the lens? Any help would be great
My RU-52SZ30 is an "LCD Projection TV," and it sure ain't projecting from the front.
The optical engine was the only suggestion the repair person had after $250 worth of fruitless cleaning and adjusting. What exactly is an "optical engine," and does anyone have a idea what one costs? Can an amateur hope to replace one successfully?

There are many causes for spots on top of an LCD rear projection tv, you are probably in the first two cases, both require part replacements and repair job.
If the spots are faint blue, green or pink shadows, then it can be a problem with the anti polarization panel placed on top of the LCD.
Similar spots (colored shadows) may be caused by a problem with the light engine, in that case the fix will be expensive.
If the spots are bright lights, like an aura, that is a problem with the color wheel.
Problems on the light tunnel can cause static gray shadows.
If the spots are static dark stains than that is lcd liquid, the LCD panel must be replaced.

You have a problem with your optical block and Sony is covering the repairs. You MUST HURRY as the warranty extension only runs through the end of December. Be sure to rate this answer. Thanks!
Sony guarantee the consumer to replace the optical block assembly for thousands of dollars in parts and labor every four years or when the pink and blue spots appear every time. Then replace the optical block assembly again and again every time the spots appear.
The dust is on the lcd located inside the optical block. It requires quite an extensive tear down and if you're not at the minimum a CET don't attempt this one yourself... Most shops won't even do this cleaning in the home and any repuatble shop that does it has a clean room they will put it in to do the work..
A single speck of dust no larger than 25 microns on the lcd can shadow in the picture. To give you some idea how small that is a blood cell is 7 microns wide...
