Try this little trick that I have discovered. Press START for 4 seconds, then you will hear 2 beeping sound. Then alternately press START and STOP 4 times. You will see a cursor like display on the right side of the LCD. Press MENU or FUNCTION then input 97. Look for "CARD TEST" then press OK then press STOP. Pls let me know if this trick worked.

nice ! I now copy and print without plug'n print card, reusing reeled back inkfilm.
on a "Philips magic 3 basic" with a PFA331 plug-n-print card do the following to
disable any future check of chipcard.
press START 4 sec. until the beep. press MENU then type 94 and scroll to TEST CARD.
set it to zero. open case. remove the plug-n-print card.
I now was able to reuse the spent inkfilm, (scrolled back onto further reel) with no chipcard in place. excellent ! the inkfilm-meter will show NEW INKFILM! very nice hint by augustin. what are the other MENU 97 good for, you think? there are 6 more setting to tamper with but I don't want to screw it up. many Philips faxes have this "secret menu" for hacking !
I ran into the problem when the fax said : "chipcard says: inkfilm is spent" buy a new one. But I did not feel like buying a new one, since the inkfilm can be reused a few times if you accept some lower blackening at times.
