Question about Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W1 Digital Camera
I'm having problems with my Sony Cybershot DSC-W1. Viewing images is no problem, as is accessing the 'setup'-menu. The problem starts when I want to take a picture: the lens comes out and the camera immediately goes dead. Nothing appears on the screen (ie error messages or something). I tried other (brand new) batteries, different memorysticks and resetting. That didn't work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I had the same problem. Rgazevedo's solution worked for me, here's what you do: with the camera off, turn the dial to play mode, turn camera on, then turn the dislay screen off, switch over to camera mode, you should be able to take pics. Any word on this firmware upgrade business?

This sounds like what started happening with my camera a few weeks ago. I found that turning the LCD screen off during picture-taking allows me to take pictures. I then have to go into review mode to look at the pictures I took using the LCD screen. Definitely not a great fix. I'm trying to locate a firmware upgrade that may solve it.

I have the exact same problem. No suggestions unfortunatley.
I have the same problem and gave the camera to sony's authorised
service centre. I paid the diagnostic fee and sony said it would pay
for parts and repair. After a lot of letter writings, Sony returned my
camera after 4 months, UN-REPAIRED, but didnt return my memory
stick and the diagnostic fee. Instead of any explanation, apology or
compensation, Sony is offering to sell me another sony
camera. I guess a mass campaign would force sony to behave
ethically and decently with its customers.
