Question about DeLonghi DE500P Dehumidifier
My unit stopped working and displays error code 3. I called Delonghi and they said I had a problem with one of the sensors. Delonghi will not tell me which sensor and will not sell me any parts. Do you know which sensor triggers error code 3? Can you suggest where I might be able to buy the new sensor? Thanks
I'm no expert appliance repair guy but this worked for me.
After systematically shorting out all the two wire sensors by disconnecting them from the controll/display panel I was left with the 4 wire connector going to the small circuit board wedged into the condensor.
I shorted out the black and yellow wires while this connector was disconnected, and plugged it in. You need some fine wire for this.
Plugged it in and the compressor and everything came on. Nothing on the display... unplugged it from the wall. Plugged the 4 wire sensor (maybe called the condensor sensor), plugged it back into power. E3 error gone, and the unit is working like a charm.
I looked at the small PCB on the condensor and only notice one ASIC and one capacitor. My guess is I drained the capacitor and it is happy.
Now all I need is the hose fitting to take advantage of the pump.

Be Safe or don't do it....
On the side with the lint screen, remove the five screws holding the top panel in place. The sensor that needs to be checked in mounted on the radiator fins. Remove the sensor and 4 pin connector. With a pin, remove the loose fitting housing the "sensor"...a circuit board that "shorts" with condensation...check corrosion and look for component damage on the oft chance the circuit board was damaged by some inappropriate poking or mechanical failure. Reassemble and replace sensor...
For a short life span...or out of warranty and only at your risk (IF have significant other or kids or pets or human DNA... don't do this...) .. guide wire through screen notch and attach to outer screen. Build fortress around exposed sensor and talk to insurance agent for a special rider...seriously be careful.
Did you? Clean screen and GENTLY clean fins of lint, etc....(vacuum's brush head should do the trick...)
Taking all appropriate safety precautions.

It may be that the error 3 is due to a pump malfunction. The pump malfunctioned on my 500p and when the pump float switch reservoir fills and the pump does not start the error code 3 indicates. You will also get a pump error light as well. I cannot find anywhere to purchase parts. Looks like purchasing a Delonghi was a big mistake. The unit didn't make it a year and a half.

I have 2 of these units in service for about 2-1/2 yrs. They've been great except for having to clean the filter and lines about every 3-6 mos. The filter and exhaust panels along with the control panel side of the housing must be removed to get to it. I blow the lines out, clean the filter (soak first if necessary), then water tray. The design of the housing is terrible but the units have been very good to us. We use them daily.
