I'm a huge baseball fan and the picture on my TV is good but the score of the game is in white lettering and I can no longer tell what it says (blurry). It's gotten progressively worse over a period of years. I've tried all of the settings changes in the menus to no avail. Then I thought that perhaps it was simply dust on the tube or the electronics so I removed the back cover and vacuumed it out and wiped the tube. This actually made the picture a little bit better but didn't change the white lettering. It makes it very difficult to watch a "dubbed" movie too.
Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Re: Manufactured January 1997 - Blurry white letters
Your TV is nearly 10 years old. Over a period of time, the Picture tube has become weak! (Technically, the Electron Emmissions from the Electron Heater Element has become reduced) Permanent solution is to replace it, but the cost will be prohibitive. Best is to get a new TV. Otherwise, take it into a Technician Shop, who will recondition it for a modest fee.

You do need the original remote or a good pattern replacement as the button you need is on the original and may be on the pattern replacement
the screen format size control is only controllable with any certainty by a original remote
It sound like your tv needs convergence repair. There is a couple of possible causes to this problem on this particular model. One will be a missing voltage due to a loose conection on the fly back transformer, it may cause a fuse to open; it may also be a bad convergence power supply module, or a bad convergence module.
My picture is too big for my screen also, I have a 27 inch screen and I can't see the scrolling tickers on the bottom and the baseball score readout on the top. When I turn the tv on, the heads are huge on the top and that finally comes into proportion, but it goes too far. I can't find a horozontal or vertical control in the manual or on the tv menu. What can I do?
I started reading the manual with your question in mind, but I found that the instructions for screen controls take up about 40 pages.
I'll just put the URL for the owners manual here instead. That way you'll have all the information you should ever need for making adjustments. ;)
Sounds like theres a leaky capacitor in the screen drive circuit. I have seen this problem also be a gassy crt but was able to clean off the grids of the CRT with a crt/rejuvinator. It happens because of low emmissions in the tube and when white is on thats a mix of all the colors, so the tube works harder. I bet when you whatch a movie and the scene changes suddenly to a white or brite scene the pic looks a little washed out. If this is not the case then I aggree with the Pravin and try it on another TV just to be sure .. This is not a repair for a consumer to do, though however it is only a three year old set you stated, so there should be life left in the tube, so im kinda thinking a capacitor is bad. Seek out a yechnician to check this out for you as a TV is not a place to see it you can fix it or to exoeeriment with. Good Luck
