STA-RITE 5P2R-125G with 0.75 HP motor. Had bearings in motor replaced and was advised that shaft seal is also replaced. Now have a leak from the motor side of the seal plate at the bottom. They replaced shaft seal but it is still leaking. I notice from the STA-RITE installation guide that the copper insert(cone shaped) should be replaced.I was told that this part was not needed and that it was not available anymore.I am just wondering whether the absence of this part is now causing this leak.Any ideas as to whether this is the problem or is there any other component that is allowing water to pass back to the outside face of the seal plate. They also metioned that it may that the impeller may be the cause and need replacing.

The absence of the copper cone will not cause a leak, however, there is a different shaft seal that needs to be used in lieu not having the copper cone installed.

If the impeller is damaged or cracked, that can cause a leak at the shaft seal. If you replace the impeller, the shaft seal will most likely need to be replaced as well.

PUMP NOISY, WATER LEAKING

Your pump shaft seal is leaking and has flushed the grease out of the bearings. Any reputable spa or pool company should be able to replace the bearings and the seal kit for far less than the cost of a new pump. Approx $150.00 to re and re bearings and seal kit.

I have a STA RITE 1 hp above ground pump that is used for my lawn irrigation system. It is about 3 years old. It seems to be making more "noise" as it runs than it has before... Q. Is there a way to...

Hi Tom, The reason your pump is getting noisy is because the motor bearings are worn out. This can also be caused if the shaft seal between the motor and the wet end is leaking. The bearings can't be lubricated because they are sealed. The best solution is to have the bearings replaced as well as a complete seal kit for the wet end.

On my max e pro i have white power coming from front area of the motor near the seal plate area. What would caus this. The pump is making a high pitch noise as well.

Your shaft seal has gone bad and water is leaking past the seal, down the motor shaft, and getting into the bearings. The bearings on the motor have started failing and that is causing the squeal. The white powder is calcium buildup. This is caused over time as the water leaks and evaporates, it leaves calcium and any other impurities in the water behind. Had you caught it earlier you could have replaced the shaft seal and saved the motor. At this point you'll need to either replace the motor or have it rebuilt. It may continue to run like that for months, or may go out tomorrow. If your going to rebuild the motor you should do it now before it gets worse. If your gunna replace it, then you can run it as long as the noise doesn't bother the neighbors and the motor doesn't get too hot. Plastic parts inside the motor can actually melt and catch fire. Rebuilt motor will cost ya about 1/2 to 2/3 cost of new motor.

Pump is leekin water

there are a couple of places where the pump may leak. The discharge fitting, the seal plate o-ring, or the shaft seal. If the shaft seal is leaking, water will be dripping from the bottom of the pump where the motor mates to the seal plate.

I had to replace my pump motor and can't get my pump to quit leaking at the joint. I am trying RTV Sealer as we speak.

Did you change the seals? Whenever pump motors are replaced, the ceramic shaft (mechanical) seal should be replaced. Its also a good idea to replace the seal plate and diffuser seals.

Problem with Sta-Rite 5P2R pump

1 year mfgr warranty and a possible stuck impeller (from debris) or bad motor bearing(s)... You will need to disassemble the pump and inspect the impeller by rotating it and check the motor for a seized bearing and bad shaft seal. Replace both bearings and shaft seal may resolve the issue. If the motor and impeller spin freely, then you might have a bad motor start capacitor. Some motors have a mechanical governor that can get stuck on the high speed switch and the motor will not spin until that is repaired. These type of pumps require some knowledge and skill to overhaul. Seek professional assistance to prevent damage.

Punp leaking water think around barrins

You need to change your pump seal. It goes on the shaft of the motor as it enters the rear housing of the pump. If it has been leaking for a while, and started to get really loud you might want to replace the motor while you got it apart.
