Tao XM2go shuts off for no reason

My Tao XM2go shuts off for no reason during operation in both my car and at home. Pressing the power button will turn the unit back on. The unit may operate for several hours or several minutes but it will turn itself off again. The does not seem to be heat related and there seems to be no pattern to the failure.

Mine does not stay powered on when I disconnect from charger. Bought new battery, no change. Not sure why???

Mine works fine in the house but turns off frequently while driving. I assume it's a problem with the cigar lighter power plug unit or intermittent connection issue at the point of contact where it makes circuit with lighter receptical. I moved it to the other port in my truck (vehicle has two). It ssems a little better in one than the other so that may be a clue. I'm about to figure a way to hard wire this thing into my truck's 12 volt power. I would imagine taking the power unit apart and connecting wiring directly would be the way to accomplish this re-engineering. Any thoughts would be appreciated. [email protected]

You could try taking the batteries out and cleaning the contacts, replacing the batteries and/or using sellotape to hold the batteries in place. They could be loose and disconnect when you move it in a certain way. If not the batteries, you could try further dismantling and cleaning, but you may just end up with a clean ball of sellotape that still has problems...! worth a try. stoodleysnow

My tao xm2go unit is transmitting a very weak fm signal to my car radio. I can barely hear the audio.

You likely need to directly connect. In most cases the FM transmitter is too week to broadcast through FM stations, and a direct connection will clear up your issue. It could be as simple as connecting via an Auxiliary cable or Cassette Adapter. If you don't have the ability to use one of those, you can get an Auxiliary Input Adapter. Another solution would be an external FM Transmitter, with a larger range.

Try plugging the power adapter directly into the bottom of the radio without using either base/cradle - wait a minute - then see if you get a battery indication.

My Tao solution is to buy the Delphi MyFi which appears to have an identical interface. See page 10 here: http://file.xm411.com/manuals/MyFiUserGuide411.pdf . This is expensive but service in not available.
