Question about Sony NW-E405 MP3 Player

FORMAT ERROR One of my friend have format flash memory in this player from windows, and from then we can use this player only as usb flash memory. We can't use it as MP3 Player. in documentation, we found that memory in player have to be formated with MENU function on player. My question is HOW TO DO THAT???

It is very simple. You hold press the menu button until the screen changes the menu list. Go to advanced menu at the down end, then choose format.

Error windows was unable to complete the format

I experienced the same problem (my USB device ). try these steps:
1. Start, Control Panel,
2. Performance and Maintenance,
3. Administrative Tools,
4. Computer Management,
5. Disk Management,
6. Find the USB drive (usually the last storage device before the optical drive),
7. Click on the USB drive,
8. Right click on it and you will see the options (New Partition or Format)
9. Follow the instruction (I chose FAT32), but please do NOT chose Quick Format.

Unable to format the 2GB

STEP 1 - Connect your flash drive, MP3 player (in MSC mode), memory card or card reader to the PC

STEP 2 - Open Disk Management

Click Start, right-click on Computer and select Manage.

STEP 3 - Format the device / MP3 player
1. Right-click on the drive / device you want to format then select Format.

2. Occasionally, a warning may come out concerning active partition, click Yes.

3. You can leave the formatting options such as the Volume label and File system to default.
4. Click OK to format.

I can't seem to remove write protection from this disk to format it. It is and 8gb usb device. It tells me it's write protected whenever I try to fix it.

Try with my property click here , choose download - and download winsetup from usb.

Check the little white switch on the side of the memory card. That is the write protection switch. Turn it to the off position and try formatting again.

Hi,
You can try to format the mp3 player.
Go through: Setting>Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Computer Management>Disk management>
Try to format it with fat files system.

Try the following:
1) Plug the USB MP3 player to your PC then reboot.
2) On windows, go to windows explorer then right on the USB MP3 player and click format.
3) If you get the same error you might run out of memory.
4) Free some installed programs by uninstalling then try steps 1 and 2 again.
