Zebra ZM600 - ribbon in error

I have a ZM600 zebra printer which is complaining about a ribbon being in when it is in direct-thermal printing mode (i.e. doesn't need/use a ribbon). As far as I can see the printer still works, but keeps flashing this error message.

I keep thinking that it must be something to do with the ribbon sensor except that there isn't any ribbon in place for the printer to detect in the first place, so I'm not sure why the error keeps occuring.

Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks

Make sure the ribbon sensor is in the proper position and that there is nothing covering it, like a piece of label that came off and got stuck to the sensor. Here is a picture of where the sensor is located. Did you make sure you put the ribbon sensor plate back in? If not you will get this message. Make sure the Print Method is correctly set! Although I exclusively use Thermal-Transfer (ribbon is loaded along with label stock) my 140xIII had Print Method set to Direct-Thermal and printed labels just fine. The only problem I could see was that the Ribbon In warning would not go away.
After changing the Print Method the warning went away and printing continues as before

Warning ribbon in V53.16.7Z

The "ribon in" warning is because you set the printer to print DIRECT THERMAL insted THERMAL TRANSFER. The first mode is for printing directly on the thermal labels, not for using a ribon. The ribon sensor detects that a ribon is pressent and you get this message. You need to change the printing mode to Thermal Transfer from the printer Setup Menu, or from the Print Driver instaled on PC.

Why is my ZM600 showing error ribbon out when it has no ribbon and is used as a thermal printer

The thermal system also uses a ribbon with wax transfer. Check that it is not twisted or run out

Zm600 error message ribbon out

If you are using ribbons make sure your Ribbon is covering the ribbon sensor (located behind the Printhead on the inside of the media path. Looks like this.

If you don't have a ribbon change from Thermal Transfer to Direct Thermal in the menu.

Zebra 105SL runs out of ribbon, the printer still continues to run, have tried calibration, still not stopping when ribbon runs out

Make sure that you have the printer set for THERMAL TRANSFER printing and not DIRECT THERMAL. It is possible to run the printer in DIRECT THERMAL MODE with the ribbon installed so in that case when the ribbon runs out the printer will not stop.

Zebra S4M printer Alert Message: Ribbon out I'm using a thermal paper. There is no print method mode.

In the software printer driver- set it to direct thermal or no ribbon. It will override the printer setting.

What is the difference between the Zebra LP 2844 Thermal Printer and the Zebra LP2844Z?

lp2844 use programming languages EPL2, Line Mode, lp2844 use ZPL II, ZPL (Zebra languages), both are Direct Thermal (don't use ribbon), not Thermal-Tranfer (use ribbon).

I cant seem to get rid of the "Ribbon In" error on my zebra S4M

1st change the print method to direct thermal on the LCD panel,  then check the driver on your computer, make sure you are printing with direct thermal

u can check the driver at printer & faxes , right click the printer and select printing preference .

Zebra Z4 Error message

ribbon in means, you choose direct thermal print method which is printing without a ribbon and yet you print with thermal transfer print method.

just check on lcd panel , change the print method to thermal transfer. and make sure the setting on your driver is thermal transfer too, or else it will keep reverting back to direct thermal

My zm400 keeps reverting back to direct thermal

did it stay on direct thermal if you not doing any print job ?
then i assume you the problem is when you printing .In ZEBRA DESIGNER, there's a printing preference that can be set up... i think u selected direct thermal when you print with zebra designer, that's why whenever u start printing, it show RIBBON IN again.
the solution is, Just changed the printing method from zebra designer.

if you aren't using zebra designer, then the problem at your driver. Open Printer & Faxes, then right click your Printer and klik on Printing Preferenced. There u can set up the printing method to Thermal Transfer.

The thing is....... changing the Setting from LCD panel won't change the setting on the driver.

i hope this will help you

No print with ribbon

Did you put a ribbon in your printer? The zebra does both direct thermal and thermal transfer, but you need a ribbon to get it to print AND have to change the settings to let the printer know that it needs to use the ribbon instead of direct thermal.
