When I make a copy, all I get is a smudge of toner accross the paper. What can I do to fix this?

I have new toner installed, I also cleaned everything off good, and made sure that everything is connected. Still nothing. No sign of what I want to copy.

Leaves black marks on copies

It could be leaking toner from the recovery area that sis on top of the dum, it removes any toner that was not transfered to the paper. You would have to remove it and empty out the toner.

My HP 4100 printer prints with a black smudge clear down the page. I clean the roller but continues to print bad copies. Should I replace the cartridge?

Problem is either the cartridge or the fuser.
Put paper in the manual feed tray(tray 1)
Print something. When the paper gets 1/2 way into the printer, open the
top cover. Pull out the toner, look down at the paper.
If it has the smudge replace the toner. If no smudge, replace the fuser.

Black lines on copies and on drum

There are a few things you can do to troubleshoot this problem.
  1. Be sure you are using new, clean paper
  2. Clean the copier's paper rollers, the marks may result from a dirty roller mechanism.
  3. Clean the copier bed's glass plate, smudges manifest themselves in the final copies.
  4. Clear any excess toner that has spilled in the toner cartridge chamber. Remove the cartridge, set it aside, then clean the compartment.
  5. Check for low toner levels. Low toner levels can actually contribute to unsightly lines and blotches on a photocopy
If all else fails, try turning down the darkness of the copies in the settings, this can occasionally lead to lines and marks.

Brother MFC8660dn, all copies are smudged, bought new toner and still doing this, what can I do to fix this

If they are smudged and the toner is set when the print comes out, there is something catching on the paper before the heated roller. If the toner smudges after the print comes out there is a fault with the heater and it is not setting the toner.

HP4-smudged copies of printed text are appearing lower on the page...Any ideas on the fix

Run a 1/2 test.
Put paper in the manual feed tray(tray 1).
print something. And watch the paper. As the paper gets
about 1/2 way into the printer, open the top cover, remove the toner.
Look down at the paper. If you don't see smudged text, the fuser is probably bad.
If you see the smudging, replace the toner.

Black smudges down left side of page

How do I clean white or black spots on printed documents? Description: First make 10 to 15 copies of a blank, white sheet of paper.
If you still see the spots on printed documents after making multiple copies, clean the drum unit as follows:

  1. Remove the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly, and then remove the toner cartridge from the drum unit.
  2. Position the print sample in front of the drum unit so you will know the exact position on the drum that is causing the poor print.
  3. all-ug-19.gif
  4. Turn the black gear on the drum as you check the surface of the OPC drum.
The OPC drum is photosensitive so do not touch it with your fingers.
  5. all-ug-20.gif
  6. When you find the substance on the drum surface that matches the print sample, gently dab the surface of the OPC drum with a cotton swab that is lightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol.
  7. Note
      • Do not use a scrubbing or wiping motion because this might damage the drum.
        all-ug-21.gif
      • Do not try to clean the surface of the OPC drum with a sharp object, such as a ball-point pen, because this might cause permanent damage to the drum unit.
  8. If the print quality still has not improved you need to install a new drum.

Prints are having black lines and smudges along the sides of the paper. What do i need to clean?

Unfortunately when it comes to toners and drums there isn't much that can be fixed with cleaning. It sounds like either your toner cartridge is worn or defective and spilling toner, or your drum could need replacing and therefore is acting up. To check if it's the drum, pull out the drum unit and look at the drum roller (but don't touch it!) you should see streaks or color changes on the roller in places matching where the smudges on the paper are if the drum needs to be replaced.

My bet is on the drum. Drum units are fairly easy to get a hold of, since it is a "replaceable" part of the printer. And if you can install the toner you should do fine with the drum unit as well.

Hope this helps, good luck!

After changing toner on my sharp, SF-2022 copy machine, the copies are coming out with black smudge marks across the paper? how/where should i clean?

This means the machine is over-toning ie using more toner than required caused by either improper toner or different brand of toner. The correct toner is sf 222T1. Replace developer and use the right toner and clean the drum and its blade. You may need to clean fuser rollers for cleaner copies.

Pale smudges regularly spaced down left margin, 1.5 inches apart

Hi:

Since you have already replace the toner cartridge then the most likely culprit is the fuser assy. You can test this by trying to print something and stop it by opening the cover just as the paper is trying to pass under the toner cart. Remove the toner cart carefully and look at the unfused print on the paper. Do you see the faint smudges? If not, then the problem lies with the fuser assy. This is the unit that gets hot and fuses the toner to the paper. If this is the case you will need to have a tech replace it for you.

Good Luck
