Recently the dvd player has not been playing certain dvd's that it used to play. It gives the "wrong disk type" error and ejects the disk. I can't find any references to this error anywhere.
Same problem here . . . just with new releases though. All my old DVD's work just fine. Same problem here . . . just with new releases though. All my old DVD's work just fine.

first the laser may be dirty. you can find lens cleaning disks at any cd store. But have you recently bought a new pack of cds? Sometimes certain CDs just simply dont work with some players. No reason for it they jsut dont work. You could also be using the wrong type of cd, CD+R vs CD-R
Hello there and welcome to Fixya : No there is nothing wrong with your player the message you are receiving is telling you that the format of the disk is of the wrong format and the player can not play that type of format. Normally when a disk is coppied it is done in a certain type of format whether it be wmp or mda or somthing like this there are several different types out there. so if you have a player that takes only a certain type of formattted disk you will need to format the disk to that type of format before it can play. ok Hope this helps i can help you more if needed ok Best regards Mike
DVD region is an anti-piracy method to block DVDs from other countrys to be played on a region where that DVD isn't available for selling. You still can watch that DVD by changing the DVD Player region code from options but be aware that you have a limited number of changes, after changes reach 0 you cannot change DVD region code anymore and your DVD player will be stucked to a certain region that you selected.
First, are you trying to play a burned disk, like a CD-RW, or DVD-RW style disk? Sometimes certain DVD players will not play burned disks. Check your owner's manual. If you don't have one, go to the Memorex website and they may have s section where you can download a PDF version for free. Most sites do. Just type in your model number. Second, have you tried other disks, and are they ALL saying the same thing? If so, then it's possible that there is dust or dirt inside near the laser eye, and it's giving you the "wrong disk" message as an error. Try making sure that you have a clean disk, and pick the one in your collection that has the least amount of scratces/imperfections on the shiny side. If it still gives you that message, you can try either using one of those cans of compressed air to blow any dust or debris out of the DVD player and try it again. If that doesn't work, you could try a DVD Player cleaning kit, which you can get at Walmart, or Radio Shack, etc pretty cheap, then try it again. If it still doesn't work, there may be a problem with the unit itself, and you can consider making a claim on the Warranty if it's still covered, taking it in to an electronics repair shop, or just buying a new one. Hope this helps you out. Good luck!
I found out this tv/dvd will not play certain movies that are rented from netflix is that their dvd have a restricted thing, and this tv will not read the movies that are on certain disks. It plays movies good that I rented here in town. So theres nothing really wrong with the player itself. I did some reading and this is what I assummed.
Some DVD recorders don't like certain types of media. Does this happen with all blank dvd+rw disks or just with that specific brand? If it's that brand then you should just use a different one.
I updated my firmware from 1413 to 1416 found on avforums. This is for european units. I suggest you also complain to Toshiba Japan as there are known issues with the xs32. We all need a firmware update. See AVforums.
My unit will not recognise RAM discs anymore - even those that I had previously used.
Have you thought of replacing the DVD drive. See AVforums.
There are many chip sets for DVD machines and each has preferences for a range of disk types- most will play straight commercial discs- but things get a bit tricky with the many and various types of 'burned' disks from computers.
The strange thing is - it seems the cheaper the player the more versatile they be whilst a Hi grade one can be a tad fussy about what it will and will not do.
So what does this mean to you?
Check the types of disk you have been playing on it and stick to it-
come back with exactly what disks it don't like
