Power button isn't working. I've tried different batteries, plugging it into the computer, different memory cards, everything. And I can't get it to turn on. I have a Vivitar DVR 613HD. I can't find any manuals or guides or anything for this kind of camcorder either.

I need the driver for the vivitar dvr 550 to install on my computer. Where can I dowload one from?

The install CD and cable should be included in box w/camera...
Vivitar brand was recently bought out by Sakar last year (August 21st, 2008) which means support is likely discontinued. I have the installation CD. One upside of cheap consumer stuff is buying direct online - from China! Check ebay, the cable looks generic enough.

Hi there, the camera can be used without drivers with a computer running MacOS (10 and greater, which I'm sure your daughter's would be anyway) for the purposes of downloading the video files from the camera to the computer and editing etc.
The functionality which is not supported without the drivers (which are windows only unfortunately) is using the camera as a webcam.
On connecting the USB cable from the camera to the MacBook and turning the camera on, you will be presented with a menu on the flip-out LCD screen entitled "PC connection". The two items on the menu allow you to choose between allowing you to download videos and other content from the camera (Mass Storage) and using the camera as a webcam for the computer (PC Camera).
Mass Storage is the option you need to select at this point (which I believe is highlighted by default) after which an icon will appear on the desktop of the MacBook allowing you access to the camera's storage.
Hope this was of some help.
