Im thinking of getting either ps3 or xbox360 elite which one do you recommend?
which is better and why?
The two consoles have different games that are exclusive to them. Check out what games are exclusive to the consoles and see if you like those games. And if that doesn't really matter, note that PS3 supports Blu-ray and Xbox 360 doesn't. If you want to get an Xbox 360 but want to use it as a Blu-ray player, try ripping Blu-ray to MP4 to play on your PS3. If you need, here's how you can do that: How to Rip and Convert Blu ray to MP4 with Blu ray to MP4 Converter
Get a ps3 because there are no technical problems that i know of unlike the xbox 360 (e.g. red ring of death)
You should focus on the games and less on the console hardware itself, mainly exclusive games. If you prefer games like Halo, Gears of War, and other games only available to Microsoft and the XBox then get that one. If you prefer games like Metal Gear Solid, Resistance, God of War, etc..., then get the Sony. So I would closely examine the exclusive game base of each machine.
Also consider that the XBox came out a year ahead of the PS3 so it has more games available, especially lower priced budget games and previously owned games.
The PS3 is more advanced graphically and includes the Blu-Ray playback, so if you watch a lot of movies then the PS3 might be a better value. Especially since you are looking at getting a new TV you will want to take advantage of HD and Blu-Ray. If you get an XBox and wish to watch Blu-Ray you will have to spend at least another $200 to buy a player.
The XBox on the other hand integrates perfectly with Windows Media Center edition and the Media Center features in Windows Vista. So if you have a computer that records live TV for you or if you have a lot of music and movies on your computer then the XBox may be a better choice as it acts as a Windows Media Extender device. I believe the XBox can also download NetFlix movies if you subscribe to that. XBox live also has movies and TV shows that you can Rent and download. But I think Sony is planning a similar service shortly.
You should also consider your old games library. Both consoles will play games from their last generation. So if you have a large collection of PS2 games you may consider the PS3 as it plays those too. Otherwise is you have a large collection of original XBox games, the XBox 360 plays some of those as well.
So you should base your decision on the exclusive games available to the consoles, your multimedia needs and your current game library.
In my opinion the PS3 is the best choice because of it's sheer power and the inclusion of a Blu-Ray player.
As for TVs the LCDs are your only real choice. Plasma screens burn-in rather easily, so any elements that don't move like the games interface or pause screen can burn into the screen. Both consoles offer solutions for that like pixel rotation and screen blanking or screen-savers but those are just work-arounds. The cost of repair either should be about the same for a similar problem. If you need a new display panel for a plasma or an LCD the cost should be in the same range. I would definitely consider getting an extended warranty with any TV you purchase, it's worth it for a high ticket item like this.
My current favorite TV is the Olevia i747. It's a 47" LCD TV for the price of a 40". It's getting rave reviews all over the web. TigerDirect is selling it a lot but you should be able to find it elsewhere. This TV comes with much better speakers than most LCDs have. It also uses an HQV video processor which is better than most also. It really is the best TV for the money these days.
Seems like TigerDirect is out of i747s right now. They do have this 55" for $1400 (Wow!) check it out: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3712881&CatId=3651
But BestBuy et al are selling there LCDs at incredible prices lately. Your best bet is to go into a large electronics store and look at a bunch of TVs side-by-side and pick the one you feel has the best picture for the money. They often have combo deals that have a TV, 5.1 sound system, and PS3 or XBox for a special price.
I hope I've answered your questions, but feel free to ask for more if need be.
Thanks.
This all boils down to ps3 has free internet access which you do not have to buy an internet adapter where as the xbox 360 you have to purchase the adapter for the internet which will run about $90.00 dollars and then you still have to pay for the 360 network access on top of that. Also the 360 is more prone to overheating, You can buy the cooler but that still does not solve the issue. Another downside to the xbox 360 is that they run out of hard drive very quickly. I have both systems and i can tell you that my ps3 gets alot more attention. I run my ps3 on an LCD t.v. I also love the blue ray player on the ps3. I am telling you from experience to pay the little extra for the ps3. you will be satisfied. thanks.
SO is this another experiment post... EKSE ......

Just to help
i would like ps3 than x-box.
and a plasma rather an lcd.

drcool
(p.s. @charcois, have benimur talked to you about your check?, if i can help, that would be no problem with me.)
Ekse just for me, i think that PS3 is better than xbox 360 because it is more compatibility with the games unlike xbox and also games are more priority to ps3 rather than xbox. here in the philippines ps3 are use by many, xbox are use by few. its just only my suggestion and the decision is yours. thank you!

The two consoles have both good performances, PS3 maybe has more options and extra, XBox is more similar to a computer.
Both consoles mount a powerful graphic system, see here Xbox 360 Versus PlayStation 3 Graphics Comparison - Features at ...
Probably PS3 is slightly more powerful, but the graphic quality depends also on the game used.
The Xbox 360's CPU has more general purpose processing power because it has three general purpose cores, and Cell has just one.
Cell's claimed advantage is on streaming floating point work which is done on its seven DSP processors.
The Xbox 360 GPU has more processing power than the PS3's. In addition,
its innovated features contribute to overall rendering performance.
Xbox 360 has 278.4 GB/s of memory system bandwidth. The PS3 has less
than one-fifth of Xbox 360's (48 GB/s) of total memory system bandwidth.
CONCLUSION
When you break down the numbers, Xbox 360 has provably more performance
than PS3. Keep in mind that Sony has a track record of over promising
and under delivering on technical performance. The truth is that both
systems pack a lot of power for high definition games and
entertainment.
However, hardware performance, while important, is only a third of the
puzzle. Xbox 360 is a fusion of hardware, software and services.
Without the software and services to power it, even the most powerful
hardware becomes inconsequential. Xbox 360 games—by leveraging
cutting-edge hardware, software, and services—will outperform the
PlayStation 3.

Can you read my comment now?
Here you can find a choice of plasma and LCD TVs available to your door: https://kuluttajille.kauppakanava.fi/lg">Plasma Lcd Tv
This system is idiot, I think the guys in there are pushing us toward posting only BS.
I have seen Fixyas given to the most idiot solutions, in a couple of occasions Fixya was given to solutions written for a totally different product.
Why should we waste our time in writing decent solutions? If you are first, then you'll better leave a placeholder, if not, you go for the last post, possibly with a nice cheering comment, and use the work done by someone behind you that wasted fifteen or thirty minutes on the problem.
...meanwhile, number of premiums is going down, and this makes things worse.
I should dedicate more attention to my real customers here.
Get your money back pal...
"if a lcd or a plasma breaks down lets say after 3 years (outside of warranty). which one costs more to repair(Generally?)?"
That makes no sense, depends on what is broken.
A plasma screen has more expensive parts , and the absolute cost for a repair can get to a higher amount.
LCD are toughter, providing that you do not kick the display.
Both technology are not really expensive to repair, many faults can be fixed with less money than repairing a rear projection TV.
Plasma TVs have a better pricture than simple LCD, the best picture is on Rear projection TVs combined with LCD display TVs, but those are expensive Exe.
If you keep asking me question Fixya won't give you money back even if you change your mind on it, and you will have to buy a cheaper TV, think about this.
I quote "Drcool, last comment was for you. Seen 3 solutions now, reposted
multiple times to get over ginko, seems you can fight your way back
into the view by posting comments."
That explains how **** experts that post five or 6 rubbish comments in a row can get so many easy fixya.
That is what the copy and paste guy was up to, getting a fixya with loads of silly posts, so that you cover other solutions, and end up wit the user seeing one of your comments and giving you fixya, or *uxya.
