Re: sound works, picture is very dark
You have to be specific when asking a question please. as you dont mention its a flodable LCD screen TV as I had to look it up. your problem is in the backlite circuit. if your a tech, you should have no problem finding this fault but could be a little trick if your not as your going to need to know how a back light circuit works, the parts in the circuit and know how to use a multimeter. Good Luck

it sounds as though some of your LED back lights are not running, you can verify this by shining a flashlight onto the dark area of the screen (in a darkend room)to see if there is a picture there but not back lit. If this seems to be the case it will most likely be the back light inverter/driver board, on some sets this function is carried out on the power supply board, have a look at shopjimmy for tech info on your brand: TV Parts Universal TV Stands DLP Chips ShopJimmy
Sounds like you have a backlight problem. To verify this, turn on the set and dim the lights in the room. Take a bright flashlight and shine it on the screen. If you see a faint picture, you either have a back inverter or a bad backlight bulb.
Get real close to screen and maybe use a flash light to shine on the screen and see if you can see the picture still, it will be dark and almost not visible but you should notice something move. If your screen has picture then you most likely have a back light problem. Most common problems are bad inverters, or the inverter controller card. possibly a bad power supply but most likely inverters, test each circuit, replace as needed.
Show a torch light on the screen for a distance, and if you can see the picture, the backlight is not lighting up. Check for its settings on the remote, if you have that option. Check also the settings of brightness/contrast/sharpness/color. If you still have problems, please call in a qualified service technician.
The Inverter is bad - this is used to power the back-light of the screen. With a flashlight, shine the light on the screen to see if you can detect images. If you do, then that confirms a bad Inverter or the back-light bulb itself bad.
Shine a small bright light at the screen when on and see if you can see a faint picture in the dark screen. If you can then your backlighting is not functioning due to ccfl (inverter), power supply, or back light lamps.
This sounds like your inverter or back-light has gone out. What you can do to test this is to turn the TV on and then turn off all of the lights until the room is dark. Then shine a flashlight at an angle on the screen and see if you can see a picture. If you can the back-light and or inverter has malfunctioned. If this is the case, then I would suggest that you have a qualified TV technician fix this problem, but first ask for a estimate because the inverters and back-lights are sometimes part of the screen and is it is you might as well buy a new TV.
