It keeps saying on the lcd memory stick error!

remove the memory stick, you should be able to see the backend of the stick, push it in and it will pop out. after removing the stick try operating the camera again.

My sony cyber shot DSC F717 digital camera has a problem. when turned on, no images on the screen. as well in the view finder.

This problem could be a number of things.
Does it allow you to have any access to the menus? If you can get to the menus, try setting the menus to default settings. Test the camera after setting the menus to default.

Can the camera play back images or videos and show on the screen? If they can be seen, then possible some setting is not right.
If you cannot see images when in recording mode try the play back mode and see if you can see any images in the lcd.
If you cannot see any images in either play back or record mode, and no menus, then the camera needs to be repaired.

If you can see images when you play back, and none when in record mode, then the ccd is suspected to be defective. If that is so, call Sony, give them your camera model and serial to see if they can repair the camera. The status will have to be determined by Sony repair.

Blank screen

Usually it's an lcd burn out where the screen needs replacement. Check the display button if it's just blank then press it to see if it comes on. As far as your friends white screen it not feasible to repair. A good thing to get on any digital equipment is an extended warranty. It does save you in the end when something goes wrong. The limited manufacture warranties are a joke. You should never rely on them.

DSC-F717 On/Off switch Jammed

Greetings CarolineV

I have the same camera, and bought it about 5 1/2 years ago. Last fall I went to an outing with my family and spilled a small amount of coca-cola on the top of my camera. I immediately whiped it off the top, but some of the liquid got under the on/off switch and almost glued it shut. I asked my brother-in-law (an electrical engineer) what I could use to clean it with and that would not short-out the electronics and he suggested lens cleaner from a quality camera shop (which is all alchol based and therefore not going to short-out the electronics)

After about a week of putting a couple of drops directly under the switch every time I used the camera, it finally stopped sticking and now works perfectly. Not sure what is causing your problem, but you may want to try the same treatment and see if it helps - it won't hurt the camera, etc.

Good Luck!
