TV keeps turning itself on and off, onto standby

My television keeps switching itself off, but not fully, so that it is on standby. Sometimes it will switch itself back on again too. The red standby light flickers, its as if someone with a remote control is pressing buttons! The problem started when I moved the TV into a different room, it was not damaged in any way through moving. The television is approx 5 years old and tre problem has got progressively worse, in that every time it is switched on now, it more or less immediatley switches itself back off again.
