Hi, I have a new Grundig set which when turned on displays no picture or sound.
When turned on it makes the pang nosie as if the screen is powering on, but nothing happens.
Manual say to press the 'i' button to get the menu up. I can press all the buttons I like, no picture or sound will result...
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Re:
If you are getting the initial 'pang'(!!!???) noise, then it looks like a cold solder in the Horizonbtal Oscillator or Hor. Output stages.
The set is trying to power up, but the Horizontal Oscilator is not 'booting' up.
Since it is a new set, it must be under warranty....Get it checked by the company Technician.

In general, all televisions can be repaired if boards are available. but depending on age, a failure like this is often a good chance to upgrade to more modern alternatives for both picture quality and features. Having said that, your Grundig is a full HD set and worthy of repair.
You have a magnetic interference problem. First, have you put any magnetic objects like speakers near the set recently. They will cause this. Turn the set off at the wall and wait for 15 mins for the PTC device that turns on the degauss coil to cool and operate. It is the loud burst of hum you here when you turn the set on from cold.
The PTC is a postive tempeture coefficient that allows alot of current to flow at first, heating up as it does, and then slowly less current as it heats. This is why you need to turn the set off and let it cool. If the problem remains The PTC may be faulty allowing too much current to flow and upsetting the magnetic flux about the tube. If you dont have the skills you will need a technician to sort it out for you.
Free-to-air, or DTV, is Mpeg 2 and is supported. Mpeg 4 is supported for playback via files on external storage connected via the USB port.
Try doing a Restore to Defaults via the on-screen-menu in case there is a bad setting somewhere.
If this is happening on all the channels I think you will need a total reset. If so open menu and check the settings for child lock when you manually tune. An option is to reset the channels once again after the lock is opened. Choose a new channel scan to reset the memory. However if the lock seems to be only on specified channels you can open the settings of the channel and unlock on the menu.
When you press the Power/Sleep button the radio turns on and displays a
number 90, or some other numbers. This is the play time that the radio
will stay on then turns itself off. It could be that yours is configured
with a sleep timer set to 01 minute, 10 or 15. You need to set the
timer for a longer period. Thus we turn it on by pressing the
Power/Sleep button, read the timer length then press again. Keep making
short presses: The timer will cycle through all preset sleep timer
durations. Select the length you want.
There is probably a fault in the video processor, or there is a setting for the user colour temperature that is not properly set. Call the authorized service for advice on how to proceed.
