NO PICTURE on opening view screen turning on to record there is no picture just a screen of streeming colours .

    I currently own a Sony 990x HI8 video cam. Purchased last year and have used it probably three times. Problem, when I turn it on I can not view...blank screen, which shows no image.

Defective ccd imager!! company will replace this ccd imager free of charge. Year 2002 up to 2005 released unit has a factry defect ccd imager. the company recalled these unit and replaced with a stronger version of ccd imager( they are still doing it). check it out.

When i record a program it sometimes is very red in colour why please

There are a couple of reasons, if the station you are viewing has a poor signal and is grainy that can add a red hew to the picture. The second reason if you record on extended "T120 tape 6 hours" it can cause the picture to be off color with more grain to the picture and a noticeable drop in audio. I recommend changing the speed to sp "T120 tape 2 hours" it will give you far better picture and sound quality.

i think the LCD has been set to a very high brightness set the LCD brihtnes lower from the settings..

better more is to reset the camera to the default settings this would set the aperture, shutter, Exposure, LCD brightness and other settings to defaults and this would save from any unwanted changes than required

I would like sto dump my system, and start over. Syst: Gateway GT5220. running Windows XP service pack 3

this will perform an install that will eraseeverything and start over.
  1. Remove all CDs or DVDs from the optical drives.
  2. Turn off the computer using the normal Windows shut down process.
  3. After the computer is turned off, disconnect all USB devices except the keyboard and mouse. This includes USB devices such as a printer, scanner, removable storage, or camera.
  4. Turn on the computer. To start recovery, at the prompt press the F11 key.

the monitor.

Sound but no picture.

if you are able to playback previously recorded cassette and the picture is perfect then its not the head. then the problem is with the image grabbing section i.e. the CCD. May be its damaged and needs replacement.
