Removed the DVD drive from the unit, and then the top from the drive. No DVD inside. Still couldn't open front door. On the bottom of the unit, I found a bar that slides across to keep the door mechanism from opening. I can push it back and open the door. Unfortunately, when I plug the DVD player back in, the bar slides out and stops the drive door from opening. Any solutions?Removed the DVD drive from the unit, and then the top from the drive. Are all the Windows and Gateway updates and Hotfixes in? Look for a DVD rom fix on the Gateway website support. If there is no disk in the drive and it opens, you may want to replace it. You can try a work-around, I have no idea if it will solve the problem, but at boot open the BIOS, go to Boot sequence, Change HDD to boot first. DVD/CDrom 2nd or 3rd.
Someone is going to have to open the unit to see what is happening--either a disc is jammed inside or a mechanism problem.
Sometimes with unit apart you may be able to gently probe and free the jammed area--possible also something that does not belong there got inside--look closely.

Combo units have this essential flaw--if one half fails you are usually done especially if the DVD side fails.
If Door does not open either a disc is jammed inside the mechanism or the mechanism is out of alignment or damaged.
Good argument against buying these units--DVD individual parts are rarely sold--only (if available) would be the entire DVD unit itself--not cost effective to repair.
DVD players are now real cheap (see some for as little as $20) so if not a simple jammed disc or something like that buy a DVD player.
Your lovely Bose has problem with its mechanism that cause load / unload totally out of order. If you hear some noise while you turn on the bose or when you hit some buttons, it is telling us the motor still work. Now we need to check the broken gears ( or other mechanism linkage). If you able assemble this Bose, go ahead to find and fix it mehanism ( you may need some parts replacement.
Note : Be carefully with its laser lens while power on ( avoid direct contact to your eyes).
Depending on your Satellite receiver's output type (i.e. HDMI or Component - Red, Green, Blue) you should connect to your tv's appropriate external inputs. Example: if you choose to connect the receiver via HDMI, then you use the SOURCE button on your tv and select the correct HDMI input you have connected your device to. If connected by Component (Red, Green, Blue) then use the SOURCE button to select the correct Component input, and so on.
Note: HDMI is the best connection type - you won't be able to access your receiver from the tv's built in tuner.
As above explanation, your VCR and DVD devices should be connected to your tv in the same manner - unless it is a combo unit (VCR & DVD in one), in which case this device can be tuned into your chosen tv channel (via the tv's tuner).
Note: if you have one of the latest SMART tv's, it should already have a built-in "Hi Definition" tuner which will allow you to watch free digital tv broadcast (DVB).
No,if u forced it,will damges the little motor that help it to open the dirve door.Unplug the unit, hold the unit in ur hand tight over head shake it a few times, this will help, what caught inside that stop the drive door from opening.Wait like about an hour later to replug it back in the unit, will be resetting itself back to the factory setting, will help help the unit too.
i think there's a broken or loose gear.or someone put something small that stop the door from openning. you can try to open the unit up and turn the power on and check what hinders the door from openning.
Is there a dvd in the device? Also, how old have you had this for?
