Where is the refill hole, etc. for all colors? I can't find any information on instructions to refil their 100xl cartrdiges.
The lexmark 100xl can be refill but would not usable because there is a chip in the cartridge that monitor the ink level of the original ink supply. If you want to refill the lexmark 100 cartridges, you need to purchase the 100a or the 100xla. Cartridges can be purchase at www. lexmark.com. The refill hole are located at the top of the cartridge. Remove the top label and you will see the hole. Use a good quality ink to refill.
Please note that Lexmark does not recommend the use of refilled, re-manufactured or clone cartridges. You might not get the print quality you expect from the ink that is specially formulated by Lexmark.

To open the printer, just above the front control panel you use both hands & pull upwards. The whole top of the printer will open up. The ink cartrifges will be close to the center of the opening. The printer should be on for this. There are two ink cartrages. The one with the black lid is for your black ink. There is a small tab in front of the cartridge lid. Push down on the tab & the lid will open. Remove the old ink. Remove the tape that is protecting the the bottom & copper back side of the new ink. Place the ink into the printer. The copper back that runs from the bottom & up the back side about 3/4" goes into the printer cartridge. The colored ink goes into the other cartridge holder, it's lid is blue. Again press the tab just in front of the lid & it will pop open. Repeat the above removing the protective tape & install the ink.
The ptinter will want to run either a test page or allignment page or both. You will need your manual. If you do not have your manual you can download it from this site. Click the link below.

I have same problem but if you will close the low or out of ink popup and then click print it will start printing. When you run out of ink refill and keep doing the same thing. Much easier that trying tocalibrate cartridge.
SOURCE: Refilled Cartridge
I have a Lexmark X7170 with the same type problem. Refilled without a prob for many times. The last time I couldn't use it after refill and bought a new cartridge which is already out of ink. I refilled it and after installing it I get a message that the cartridge is missing and the alignment won't work
BUT
Icalled my ink supplier to see if they knew of an anti refill device put in by Lexmark and they said that they had not heard this.. While talking I remembered that the previously I got a message while printing that the cartridge was missing but if I clicked OK the printer printed without a problem! So maybe yoy just need to skip the alignment, ignore the messages and try to print anyway. The last one I refilled is now working .
Another possibility is that after some number of refills the cartridges just quit and you need to occasionally purchase a new one - this I heard previously from my supplier
Good Luck

SOURCE: refill instructions for lexmark 23 & 24
1. Peel the label off of the top of the cartridge.
2. See the squiggly lines leading to small holes.
3. Drill the holes larger using a 1/16th inch drill.
4. Hold the cartridge so the contacts are away from you. NEVER touch the contacts with your fingers.
5. The top hole is Magenta (red). You can insert a syringe needle into the hole and test the color if you are doubtful. Left is Yellow and Right is Cyan (blue).
6. Fill a syringe with the appropriate color and insert it into the cartridge until it is at the bottom. Lift the syringe back out until it is halfway between the bottom and the top. SLOWLY inject the ink (about 6 to 8 ml) into the cartridge, too fast and you will trap air inside. Watch the hole and when the ink starts to come out remove about 1/2 ml of ink.
7. Clean your syringe and repeat this process with the other colors.
8. Verify ink flow by pressing the ink head against a wet paper towel. You should see three solid lines of color.
9. Replace the label and install the cartridge into your printer.
10. Print a test page and run a cleaning cycle if print results are unsatisfactory.

please note that I am not an expert, in this field just an attorney and that is why I am putting my full disclaimer right here at the top---That i am not an expert but only speaking from experience.
Earlier this morning, I just pulled the cartridges to check the Lexmark print (X6570) cartridge numbers (41&42). When I typed these numbers in on inksell.com to retrieve the price and other information for these cartridges, they did not have any refill kits or anything of that nature for these specific cartridges.
To answer your question about why the printer is not detecting that your cartridge is full is probably because the cartridge has a chip in it that essentially disables it once the original manufacturer ink is empty. tHEY [Lexmark & Dell] do not want outside competition In other words, the printer manufacturers make the bulk of the money on selling new cartridges (for a fortune) . To make matters worse, they always seem to be half empty even though they are ‘brand-new’ ink cartridges The bottom line is that the faster you can go through a printer cartridge, they can sell many more of the cartridges that they are charging us a fortune for.
Needless to say, I am just going to go and get me another HP printer. My advice would be to check to see if ink-refill kits (see sites like inksell.com) are available for any future printers that u purchase.
