I have a 2003 Sony TV Model# KP-51WS510. It is giving the 8 error code flashes = Problem with the audio (AUDIO), unit goes to standby and blinks the self-diagnosis code. Check IC406 audio amp, PS401, and 402. Is this something I should tackle myself? I don't want to throw a ton toward a tv that is out of warranty, etc.
Turn on switch shorts out at turn on. Makes a clunk noise and does not come on.

Sony Eight blinks - Problem with the audio (AUDIO), unit goes to standby and blinks the self-diagnosis code. Check IC406 audio amp, PS401, and 402. On some projection models of Sony TV sets, this code means that T8005 (flyback transformer), or the associative components in the high voltage circuits are defective on the D board.
Eight blinks points to an audio output problem.

There is a problem in the audio circuit or the high voltage circuits. Check IC406 audio amp, PS401, and 402. Check also the flyback
transformer T8005 or the associative components around it or associated with the high voltage
circuits on the D board. Try also unplugging the unit for an hour to allow the unit to reset and make the unit work. It sometimes resolves start-up issues with the unit.

board, do not resolder as this will fix the problem temporary. Or Panel
Module Error or Thermal Error. If it is intermittent 9 blinks, meaning
sometimes the TV comes on and other times you get flashing, then change
the switching regulator on the "G" board or check connections. Make
sure the regulator is -12 or -13 (negitive).
your set is shutdown for protection due to an audio malfunction in the audio circuits. heres the info for your model from the service manual.

A Board
eight blinks means, "High-voltage error" and the probable cause
location listed is, "T8005 is faulty (D board)". T8005 is the fly-back
transformer assembly.

On some newer models of Sony TV sets, this code means that T8005 is defective on the D board. That would be the fly back transformer and the horizontal output transistor.
