My sandisk m250 keeps saying not enough room for mdb, but nothing's on it!!!!
After it initalizes and turns on it says not enough room for mdb, please delete 4mb, but nothing is on it. the it goes to the song screen where it says no files and does nothing. if I hit the menu button it repeats the message.

Reset, firmware upgrade, reformat
These are the most common methods for recovering Sandisk's Sansa Mp3
Players. I have been almost universally successful in recovering Sansa
players using one or a combination of these methods. These methods do
not work if you are having synchronization or music format issues -
they are for recovering a player that will not power up, freezes,
flashes, is not recognized by the computer, and a host of other issues.
Reset the Sansa Player first.On most models, restart is done by holding the power button in for 15 seconds or longer.Check your specific manual to be sure. The manuals are available from the Sansa website if they have been misplaced. Download the Sansa Recovery Tool from the Sansa website. Format - Erases Everything: Connect your Sansa player to the
computer and open Windows Media Player. Click on the Sync tab. Pull
down the drop down menu underneath the Sync tab by moving your cursor
over the Sync tab and left clicking on the little black arrow
underneath the Sync tab. Highlight "Sansa 1GB" (wording may vary
slightly), and then select "Format." - this should erase everything. Firmware Upgrade- Erases Everything: Get the latest firmware
upgrade from Sansa - it updates the firmware and erases every song in
the player all at once. Note: this method doesn't work if already have
the latest firmware. Go to this website and click "Firmware Updater" to
find out: http://www.sandisk.com/DriverDownload/driverList.asp If these fail, then: Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off,
hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer
while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button
for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into
recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says
Found New Hardware Wizard. If you get the problem where MTP Device keeps popping up continuously, uninstall the “MTP Device” by going to Start à Control Panel àSystem à Hardware à Device Manager (you computer may vary slightly, depending on Windows Version). You may have to restart your computer after each of these methods
to get them to work properly. Disconnect your Sansa player BEFORE

The Sansa m250 requires a separate folder to load your songs to in order to achieve the full 2 GB. Set your USB to MSC. Plug it into your computer. Create a folder TUNES. Then drag and drop your mp3 or wma files to this new folder.
This is a common problem with MP3 players with almost a full memory. Apparently, the firmware gets messed up and eventually losses recognition of its purpose or some of the files it keeps.
Sandisk has anticipated this problem and has posted online utilities just for this purpose. They are available at > http://www.sandisk.com/Retail/DriverDownloads.aspx

If it''s any consolation, the same thing happened to me after I loaded about 1.6 GB (~250 MB left) of music on my Sansa m250. I tried to delete the required 8MB, but the directory structure got destroyed to the point where my computer wouldn''t recognize the device.
I called their technical support and they''re having me send it back to them for a replacement! It''s not you, but the player! I don''t know if there''s anything that can be done from a consumer standpoint.
Seems like your M250 is experiencing some system errors that prevents it from either powering up or booting up completely.
To resolve the temporary power loss (not powering up even after changing batteries), try this:
1. Remove the battery
2. Press and hold the "Menu" button for 30 seconds. This is to completely discharge the player
3. Insert a brand new battery and try to power it on
If this procedure still does not revive the player, try this to format the player and upgrade its firmware:
1. Enable the "Hold" switch on the side of the M250. You would know the "Hold" switch is enabled when the "orange-colored" surface is showing
2. Plug the player in to the PC. (The minimum operating system requirement for the M250 is Windows XP and above). The M250 should be recognized as a "Removable Disk" when browsed in Windows Explorer
3. Right-click on that drive letter corresponding to the M250 and select "Format".
4. Follow the on-screen prompts to format the player
5. Unplug the M250 from your computer, then disable the "Hold" switch. Then try powering it on.
6. To upgrade the firmware of your M250, again enable the "Hold" switch and plug it in to your PC.
7. If you have internet access, then use this link to download the "Firmware Updater" from the Sandisk website:
Save this to your desktop and double-click on it to run the updater program. Follow the on-screen prompts.

Hey, I got the same problem. I got the first one from Amazon. The second it starts freezes up. Amazon replaced it with another one. I used it for about six weeks. It has the same problem. I think the M250s are all defective
