Vertical lines and no focus on recording

This camcorder is about 3 years old. ON playback, everything recorded earlier is fine. However, when I try to record now, I get vertical (greenish brown) lines on the screen and all I can see is light in the background. I do not see the battery and tape indicators either. I do have an 8 month old at home and need this to work or I need to replace it and want to know if it is worth fixing. thanks

    Hi,

I have the same problem with my camcorder (purchased in 2004). However, I can see the tape and the battery remaining time. Is this also a problem with the imager. Can somebody please help?

Same problem. Mine is 3 years old. Everything seems to work on playback, but as soon as I try to record, I see massive amounts of vertical lines. Can only see shadowy outlines of the objects I'm trying to record. It wasn't a gradual thing....worked one day and the next day it didn't. Suggestions??????

Hi,
I called Sony support and they confirmed that this is a problem with the CCD. I have been asked to return it to the Sony service center and they will fix it free of cost. This is in the US. Apparently, Sony lost a case that was raised by another consumer some time in 2005 so it has to do these replacements if they confirm that it is a problem with the CCD.

Sony handy cam Hi 8 ccd trv308

Sony has a recall on some of these ccd imager problems. Contact Sony to see if your model applies, but it sounds like an imager problem on your pal format camcorder. Larry

Lines across screen on playback.

A Q-tip should never be used to clean a video head.  Unfortunately they can pull the tiny head out of alignment.  I believe this is your problem and the repaid may be more costly than a new purchase.

In Camera mode, only streaky vertical lines visible on screen

Its a fault with many of the canons,
they have NOT recognised it,
but you can get it fixed free by a third party company
(cant remember off hand which one soz)

Funny how they do it for free,
as if canon are paying them so they dont have to own up !!!

Lines on video

I've found out that if the little internal battery that holds the date and time is run down, then the camera can't focus on moving things well. I left mine plugged in all weekend, now can record action. Some can be replaced - like a big watch battery.

Your camcorder is on a list with potentially defect CCD light sensors. Sony is replacing them free of charge. Go here for the link and free mailing label: http://www.imaging-resource.com/badccds.html
