Blue Horizontal lines and no sound! Please...what to do?

My camera worked fine until I used a tape that had been in the camera when I got my previous camera wet at the beach. And now when I play any tape the LCD has blue horizontal lines across it with no sound. What should I do? Can I clean these myself?

I have an identical problem with my PV-GS80. It recorded and played back fine at my daughter's horse show a couple of days back. When we tried to play back again at home (after charging the battery), the blue lines appeared and the sound disappeared. We tried a different tape and it does the same thing. The camera is only 5 months (3-4 recording hours) old. Any thoughts beyond cleaning the heads? Thanks.

After 2-1/2 great years, my Panasonic mini dv camera (pv-gs35) also started doing the blue horizontal lines & no sound. At first rewinding made everything ok; now I can't get rid of the problem. I tried cleaning the heads yesterday. Didn't help.

Same problem here. I've only had the camcorder a year. I've only used it a hand full of times. Wednesday it worked fine. Today, I went to use it again, and in playback, I had the same problems.

As far as I know, the camera did not do anything but sit there from wednesday to today

I have a the NV GS 21, too, and the same fault develped after 13 months.. I've bought a tape head cleaner cassette - no improvement.

If I record to a computer - via firewire / USB data cable the image is perfect..so it has to be a tape head problem .. right?
I've read elsewhere that this could be an actual circuitry fault and judging by these posts we are suffering a common problem.

My cam was hardly ever used and not abused.

You should buy a head cleaning tape that fits your tape deck on your camera. They should be at any store that sells electronics, or a general store, such as Wal Mart. Follow the instructions. If that doesn't work, then I don't know what to do.

Horizontal grey lines on tape playback

please state the age of your devices. It can help a great lot in solving your problems. The lines that you get aren't continuous, are they? They appear to be going up and down, are different sizes and shift as the tape plays, yes? well, this is simple. You need to clean your recording head.

Not recording or playing back recorded tapes

first leave your camcorder with the cassete draw open in a warm room for 24 hrs.
then, use a brand new cassette & re try.
if you get the condensation message, it means the unit has detected moisture on the heads, the unit will not operate... hence your problems.

Panasonic NV-GS60 with horizontal lines appear on screen

Clean the heads(use the specified cleaning tape sparingly).
Change tape. Using Panasonic video tape? It sounds like no. You might get by with Sony... Try Panasonic.
The tapes are different thickness, durability and therefore suitability for cameras. Try to get ME -type tape( metal evaporated) instead of MP( metal particle) as the particles tend to flake off more readily. The blue often means no signal(video) was recorded in that space(on the tape). Let me know it it helps.

Blue Horizontal Lines

if you dont have time to get it fixed, tap on the side where the tape goes in. I had to tap it a couple of times before everything started work fine again.

How do I remove lines

I had the problem of the horizontal grey lines with some pixels of pink. I ran the dry head cleaner a few times and the lines became solid grey with the sound now skipping worse than before. I cried, cleaned again, then played the tape. I did this about 4 times and still had no luck.

I then decided to try to record with a new tape around the room to see what would happen. After recording I played the tape back and it worked perfectly. I then went back the old tape that would not play properly and it worked fine! Seems like when I used the record button after cleaning it a few times everything worked fine, wierd.

Hope this might help someone.
