My washing machine has suddenly gone into fast spin mode for a couple of seconds and then stops. It is not turning during the washing cycle but as soon as it drains it tries to go into a fast spin.
I have changed the motor brushes, checked the pump and have cleaned out the debris trap. I have had all the connectors off and reconnected them.
Can anyone help.

Re: Goes straigt to spin
TRY CHECKING THE BOARD ON THIS MACHINE ESPECIALLY THE MOTOR CONNECTION. WHAT YOU WILL AHVE TO DO IS PUT THE DIAL IN TO THE OFF POSITION ( ONLY AS GUIDE ) THEN DISMATLE THE BOARD FROM THE FRONT FACIA. HAVE A GOOD LOOK AT THE MOTOR PLUG CONNECTION SECTION OF THE BOARD CHECK TO SEE IF THERE ARE ANY TRACKS THAT HAVE BLOWN. I RECONDTION WMA ALL DAY EVERYDAY AND I HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM BEFORE ONCE AND AM THINKING YEH THAT WAS THE PROBLEM. OR IT COULD BE THE TACO ON THE END OF THE MOTOR BUT THIS IS VERY RARE FOR HOTPOINT WMA UNLIKE THE HOOVER MACHINES.

I have a problem with my MW512AU. Sometimes it drains after wash cycle, but sometimes it sticks when it goes to spin, doesn't get up to speed, water comes on for about 10 seconds and shuts off, and it tries to spin again. If I hit the wash progress switch it goes directly to final spin and works ok. I then have to run a 2nd wash cycle to rinse the clothes. I also noticed a buzzing sound when I turn on the power point, which lasts about 3 seconds before stopping. It will come back on every 3-4 minutes for 30 seconds. This is with the machine power switch off. It powers on normally.
Barings probably over heating and expanding due to either dampness, lack of lube, bent broken or misaligned coupling. Is a warranty issue either way unless it was dropped during transit or used exessively on uneven surface. If its out of warranty you might be better of with a new one, trade in if possible.
Repair requires replacement of the transmission / break assembly. Unless you are really attached to this machine, it's time for a new machine. Average life of a washer is about 11 years doing 8 loads per week. Look into the front load machines, which use about 1/4 the water and spin about twice as fast, and are gentle on fabrics while cleaning very well. Please don't bother rating this, as non FixYa ratings drop my rating, and I'm sure you don't want to shoot the messenger.
