Freezer and refrigerator run but is not cold

We are doing a kitchen remodel and had to move the refrigerator. About 2 days after moving it, we discovered that the freezer had completely defrosted (lost all the food) and the refrigerator is barely cool. We moved it back onto a hard, level surface and turned up the thermostats but it didn't make any difference. Is there a circuit breaker in the unit that would have been tripped off when we moved it? We tilted it very slightly.

    Dear Catriver,

Thanks for your suggestions. The freezer fan is running. The compressor fan appears to be running however the compressor is NOT. The compressor is also hot to touch. Last night it kept trying to kick on --turning on and off. Now the compressor is not kicking on.

    Catriver-
Yep..it's white and it rattles when I shake it. Did moving it cause this? Now what? Thanks! you're awesome

Catriver....I have the exact problem as andeb but need more info...the relay does not have the same type connectors or connector positions.

Where should the blue, white and red connects be placed on the new relay (2154697) ?

It appears the connectors are not the same size. How do I convert the connectors over to the new relay?

    thx.....

Andeb, couple of things you want to check. Is the fan in the freezer section running? Take the lower back panel off and see if the condensor fan is running as well as the compressor. As long as you tilted it only slightly I would think this is a fan or overload relay problem. Check the things I mentioned and post back...Catriver.

Andeb, on the side of the compressor you have a relay and overload. See if yours is white. If so, you probably have a bad one. Unplug the refer and remove it. See if it rattles when you shake it. If it does Im pretty sure that's the problem. Catriver..post back.

Andeb, it's a common failure on these models. Your part number is 2212194, you can order it online or go to any appliance part store and have them match it up..Once the compressor cools, you'll be back in business...Catriver..

Our Kenmore regrigerator is 24 yrs. old one day the stuff in the freezer was thawing out and we just thought somehow the dorr may have been ajar - we threw out stuff - other part of frig. is working - then a week later we are away for one night and come home and all has shut down. Had to throw away all food in freezer, frig was warm too. Then a day later we hear it making ice again and it is cool in the frig too. Is it just something ready to go in it? We cannot rely on it to put more food in freezer just to have it go off again. Time to replace it or could it need a part replaced?

Maytag top freezer frig not getting cold enough. evaporator ice free, condencer dust free, all fans running, compressor running, freezer sitting at 15 and frig at 35, on coldest setting

Hi,

I have a few questions for you:
1. What are the settings at currently, Freezer must be set at half way only, fridge at at half or only one higher.
2. In the freezer, do you have a full frost pattern across the entire evaporator?
3. At what temperature is this unit running in? (what part of the country is this unit, a garage unit, basement, kitchen...ect..) This is important as the compressor need to be at about 120 degrees to effective move refrigerant.

Get back to me if you have more questions or answer I can help you with.
Good luck.

Freezer too cold--refrigerator too warm

If the cold control is not adjusting the temp when you move it, that can be part of the problem.
Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman";} The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. Make sure this fan is running. You may have to hold the door switch in for it to run. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.
The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.

My refrigerator was working then we moved it to another apartment now it is not getting cold.

Good day,
Assuming the lights are working, and you hear it running,
Check the most common problems first.
1. Open the freezer door and see if you hear the fan motor running. If not remove the rear panel in the freezer panel and inspect motor.

2. Most common, another fan motor motor in the bottom rear behind the rear cover was jammed while moving. Remove rear cover, inspect, and repair.

3. Check for wire damage elsewhere in the bottom area where that motor is located.

4. Make sure controls are on and set to normal.

Moved refrig this morning and now it is not cooling... freezer works great

Hih, Check and see if something has stopped the condenser fan motor down by the compressor from turning. Sometimes this happens in a move.
Also make sure the controls didn't get turned to wrong settings. Make sure evaporator fan motor is working in freezer and that there is no frost building up on the rear panel.
Just some ideas to help you.
lease let me know if I can assist you further.

Thanks

Freezer and refrigerator run but is not cold

Remove the back panel at the bottom. The refrigeration system is a sealed system and the smell would not come from it internally. Check and make sure the fan motor is running. If the fan motor (was) shorted out it would account for the reseting of the breaker. After resetting the breaker a number of times would cause the circuit in the fan motor to open allowing the compressor to run. Is the small line coming out of the compressor hot? If so replacing the defective fan motor may correct your problem.

Freezer and refrigerator run but is not cold

unit has reached its life expectancy. tilting causes oil to move into the condenser and is damaging in itself, newer units can survive moving, but when you expect both units to recover,i have to recommend replacement
