i hadnt played mine in a while, pulled it out, turned it on, and it worked once but i forgot to put the controller in, so i turned it off and put it in, turned it back on but the screen stays blank, even though the red light is on....im guessing its either something wrong with the cords or internal..?

I bought a used Nintendo64 on EBAY. I plugged Donkey Kong 64 into it, and screen stayed black, although the power light was on. I discovered that you need a memory expansion pak for Donkey Kong 64. AND, I cleaned the game contacts with a q-tip and rubbing alcohol, then wiped with my clean handkerchief. The TV screen did indeed then state that I needed the expansion pak as previously stated. SO, I received my Super Mario 64. I inserted it, turned console on, and voila, nothing but black screen. SOOOO, I took out my trusty q-tip and rubbing alcohol, cleaned the game, wiped dry with hanky, inserted game, turned on system........................and it works. Try cleaning game carefully with q-tip and wipe dry, then insert game and try it. It worked for me. Thanks

Clean the control deck and the cartridges. Check the input cable to the TV.
Hope this helped :)

When turning on my N64, the power light turns on and I have a standard AV cable hooked up, but the video will not come through on the TV.

Step 1:

So you've eliminated the possibility of bad cables. Now you need to eliminate the TV and the Nintendo 64 itself.

Step 2:

For the TV, you can try another TV or make sure that you have the TV set on the right input.

Step 3:

If you can't make it work on an additional TV and you have made absolutely sure that the TV is setup correctly, then you may be looking at a broken Nintendo 64.

Blank Screen

well, the t.v could possibly be broken, call a repair man and describe your problem and maybe they can help, but do not attempt to fix the t.v yourself as a component inside can cause fatalities.

Nintendo DS lite power light comes on but both screens stay dark?

When you boot the Nintendo DS you can change the illumination settings in the main menu.
One the main menu, you will find a sunny symbol in the lower left corner of the screen. Click on that and you should be able to change the level of illumination. If you are also wondering if you can change the brightness during game play, you can't. Games such as Mario 64 DS come with support for brightness change but otherwise you have to do it before game play.
