I have a Compaq Presario 2529EA Laptop and recently purchased the Freecom desktop unit. Everytime I connect the DVD via the USB cable and switch it on, it causes the laptop to shut down. All I get is a blue screen for a couple of seconds (not enough time to read it!) and it restarts? If I leave the DVD switched on during restart the laptop just shuts down again. Can anyone help??

I had a similar problem with a Sony External DVD Writer. I updated the firmware and all was right again. If you can identify the model of your drive here ----> http://www.freecom.com/firmware.asp?form1=true&form2=true&serie=12600&Manufactures=12600 ----- Then you can download the firmware, update and you should be set. Hope that helps!

Hi,
Have you tried moving the files onto your laptop and uncompressing them there?
Did you have Winrar (or any other copressing software) installed on the laptop before you went back to factory settings? Are the compressed files on the external drive in the .zip or .rar (or another) file format?
SOURCE: label stuck in dvd drive
What Kind of Label? How did it get stuck inside this Drive?
Has the Label caught on the Bottom or the top of the Drive?
Did you try to write to the Label with the Drive?
If it is a small centre of the disc label and is stuck on the upper steady Hub then the drive to needs to be opened, not just the Drive case but the lid of the actual drive. If there is only one screw in the casing then it may slide or clip together, Check that none of the Labels are hiding Screw holes...(Often Done) Then look for small holes/slots in the side of the Casing where one might slip a thin Blade or Screw driver, this may unclip plastic Side clips... If that fails, send me some pics of the case and I'll see what I can do to sort the Method... Hope this helps. C

Hi ,
Make sure you still have the software stored on your machine or on cd .
Please delete software and go to this site : http://kb.roxio.com/search.aspx?URL=/content/kb/Toast/ET6000082&PARAMS=set-locale=en
Follow instructions to reinstall software .
If same issue remains , try to remember what changes you eventually made to your machine just before problem happened and delete the changes to see what happens .
You can also try to restore your system to an earlier date , provided this is possible with Apple .
Hope this helps .
Thank you for visiting FixYa .
