Freecom DVD RW Recorder

I have a Compaq Presario 2529EA Laptop and recently purchased the Freecom desktop unit. Everytime I connect the DVD via the USB cable and switch it on, it causes the laptop to shut down. All I get is a blue screen for a couple of seconds (not enough time to read it!) and it restarts? If I leave the DVD switched on during restart the laptop just shuts down again. Can anyone help??

SOURCE: Freecom Classic DVD problem

I had a similar problem with a Sony External DVD Writer. I updated the firmware and all was right again. If you can identify the model of your drive here ----> http://www.freecom.com/firmware.asp?form1=true&form2=true&serie=12600&Manufactures=12600 ----- Then you can download the firmware, update and you should be set. Hope that helps!

SOURCE: My 400gb freecom external hardrive won,t uncompress my files

Hi,
Have you tried moving the files onto your laptop and uncompressing them there?

Did you have Winrar (or any other copressing software) installed on the laptop before you went back to factory settings? Are the compressed files on the external drive in the .zip or .rar (or another) file format?

SOURCE: label stuck in dvd drive

What Kind of Label? How did it get stuck inside this Drive?
Has the Label caught on the Bottom or the top of the Drive?
Did you try to write to the Label with the Drive?
If it is a small centre of the disc label and is stuck on the upper steady Hub then the drive to needs to be opened, not just the Drive case but the lid of the actual drive. If there is only one screw in the casing then it may slide or clip together, Check that none of the Labels are hiding Screw holes...(Often Done) Then look for small holes/slots in the side of the Casing where one might slip a thin Blade or Screw driver, this may unclip plastic Side clips... If that fails, send me some pics of the case and I'll see what I can do to sort the Method... Hope this helps. C

SOURCE: Freecom Classic DVD±RW 8432 Burner

Hi ,
Make sure you still have the software stored on your machine or on cd .
Please delete software and go to this site : http://kb.roxio.com/search.aspx?URL=/content/kb/Toast/ET6000082&PARAMS=set-locale=en
Follow instructions to reinstall software .
If same issue remains , try to remember what changes you eventually made to your machine just before problem happened and delete the changes to see what happens .
You can also try to restore your system to an earlier date , provided this is possible with Apple .
Hope this helps .
Thank you for visiting FixYa .

Why won't cds play in the dvd-rw?

Nathaniel, DVD RW have the capability of playing any CD. If you are facing problem then either:

a) Your CD is not right or has too much scratches on it.
b) Your DVD RW Lens has gotten a bit weak. Clean your DVD RW lens and then give it a try.

Will an optical drive from cq62 fit mine?

NO.

I sort of see your reasoning, but NO.
HP Compaq DC7700 Ultra-Slim Desktop PC, and Compaq Presario CQ62 series of Notebook PC DVD burner drive?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-For-Compaq-Presario-CQ62-TS-L633-SATA-CD-RW-DVD-RW-Multi-Burner-Laptop-Drive-/300725349252?pt=US_CD_DVD_Blu_Ray_Drives&hash=item4604a0ab84

Until I compared both units I would have stated NO.

Now that I have THANK YOU. I just learned something,

http://www.amazon.com/HP-Compaq-DC7700-DC7800-DVD-ROM/dp/B004574PEG

Referring back to the photo view, of the Compaq Presario CQ62 series of Notebook PC's DVD burner drive shown, the REAR view shows the connectors for the SATA power cable, and SATA data cable.

The connectors use the same L-shape design, and size that a SATA unit for a desktop computer, would use.

Case design looks to be similar also.

I believe you are Correct.

DVD+RW is not recognized. Doe's it mandate DVDRW+- only?

That is determined by your DVD recorder not the media you are recording. The + and - are format types. You need to use the format that is compatible with your DVD recorder.

Disappearing DVD driver

Use device manager to remove the dvd/cd unit, and then reboot the computer. Vista will locate the unit and install the driver.

It is possible that the dvd/cd unit has failed and requires repair or replacement
