Won't recognise new ink cartridges

Ran out of yellow ink; Cartridge replaced; Message, "Install yellow ink cartridge"; Faulty cartridge? Changed it again; Message again, "Install yellow ink cartridge"; Needless to say, checked the fit of the new cartridges, checked they were full, clean etc. Any known issues or solutions?

I guess you d used generic ink carts?!
If yes, the cart holder needs replacement due to ink that has stained the led control. The ink has made a short circuit. The error can only be deleted by replacing the whole cart holder!

SOURCE: MFC 210C Ink Problems

Steve,

did you watch the display after replacing the cart?
Very often the machine asks if you have changed the cart and demands an answer (1 for yes).

You can try to do an update of the firmware, too. Go to www.brother.com , choose your country and then your machine. Download a small update tool and run it.

If it aint getting better:
Do unplug from power outlet (even though you have done already) wait 10 Min. leave scanner cover open and take all carts out. Plugin to power again and leave scanner open. Wait uintil machine gives a warning signal. Reinsert carts and close cover: now watch the display and give always the answer YES(1).

Each cartridge having printing life, as long as cartridge health condition is good it won't gives any trouble. Subjected series printer having mono & colour cartridges,1. Remove both cartridge from the printer 2. Switch on & wait till message appears for insert the cartridges..3. Insert mono(Black) cartridge, close the door & wait till message appears on screen. I need to make the ink carriage move over so I can replace the ink cartridges inmy workforce 840. Online here it says "hit theink button" what the heck does that mean? Where is this ink button?...

this is out of the manual

Replacing Ink Cartridges
Make sure you have a new ink cartridge before you begin.
Caution:
Do not open ink cartridge packages until you are ready to install the ink. Cartridges are
vacuum packed to maintain reliability.
Leave the expended cartridge installed until you have obtained a replacement, or the
ink remaining in the print head nozzles may dry out.
1. Turn on the product.
2. If an ink cartridge is low or expended, you see a
message on the LCD screen indicating which
color to replace. Press OK.
If you're replacing a cartridge before you see a message on the LCD screen,
press Setup, select Maintenance, then select Ink Cartridge Replacement.
3. Raise the scanner.
4. Open the cartridge cover. Then squeeze the tab on the cartridge and lift it up.
Dispose of it carefully. Do not take the used cartridge apart or try to refill it.
Warning:
If ink gets on your hands, wash them thoroughly with soap and water. If ink gets
into your eyes, flush them immediately with water. Keep ink cartridges out of the
reach of children and don't drink the ink.
5. Before you open the new cartridge package, shake
it gently four or five times. Then remove it from
the package.
6. Remove the yellow tape from the bottom of the
ink cartridge.
Caution:
Do not remove any other labels or seals, or ink will
leak. Do not touch the green chip on the front of the
cartridge. This can damage the ink cartridge.

Colour ink cartridge not reconise. replace colour ink cartridge.cod 3603

To resolve the issue:
  1. Make sure you install the correct type of KODAK Ink Cartridge for your printer. Currently we offer two types of ink cartridges (10 Series and 30 Series). Installing the wrong type of ink cartridge may result in this error. You will need to install a new, correct type of KODAK Ink Cartridge.
NOTE: For more information, see Which ink cartridges to buy for all-in-one printer.
  2. If you are using the correct type of KODAK Ink Cartridge, reinstall the color ink cartridge.
    1. Open the printer access door.
NOTE: If the ink cartridges don't move to the center, see Printhead and ink cartridges don't move to center with access door open.
    2. Wait until the printhead is idle and silent, then pinch the latch on the color ink cartridge with your thumb and forefinger and lift it out of the printhead.
    3. Install the color ink cartridge back into the printer, making sure to press down on the thumb tab until it clicks into place.
    4. Close the printer access door. For printers with LCDs, follow the instructions on the LCD screen.
For more information on installing ink cartridges, see the Extended User Guide for your printer. Review Maintaining Your Printer - Replacing ink cartridges.
  3. If the error continues, restart your printer:
    1. Turn off the printer by pressing the power button.
    2. Wait five seconds.
    3. Turn on the printer.
  4. If the error continues, and you have extra, new KODAK Ink Cartridges on-hand, try to install a new ink cartridge (or a set of new ink cartridges).
  5. If the error continues, contact us.
When the issue is resolved, we highly recommend that you upgrade the firmware for your printer for optimum performance:
  1. Locate and select the firmware for your printer.
  2. Follow the instructions to install the firmware.

RECOGNITION OF GENUINE CANON INK CARTRIDGE

I posted the original problem. Although the cartridge was genuine I had taken it out and reinserted it as I wasn't sure I had loaded it correctly the first time. Advice from my local retailer was that this was a mistake. Canon PIXMA printers no longer recognise a cartridge once it has been removed. Solution was another new cartridge which I shan't remove until it's empty. When this second cartidge is empty I shall try the first cartridge again as it is still full and unused. It has yet to print anything! Why Canon's helpdesk couldn't help is a mystery. I conclude that Canon's printer management systems are unfriendly to users. They are friendly only to Canon. I hope my experience will help others especially those considering buying a Canon printer. dudbob
