I can get everything to work fine in standard definition, but when I select 1080i on the PS3 it does not show the whole screen (like it is zoomed in and off-center a bit). I have the PS3 hooked up to the tv via a DVI to HDMI cable (have also tried a regular HDMI cable with DVI converter).
Hello!
Have you tried to toggle "format" or "screen size"? On those sets non HD and HD settings could be adjusted separately. Try that, first. If no luck, try similar settings on PS3. I bet, you will be able to match screen format there, as well. To me it looks, like picture formats are mismatched. Also: try to use "component" cables, instead of DVI adapter cable, if nothing works.
good luck,
Alex.
Thank you for posting a suggestion so quickly. I added details to my initial question in regards to the first thing you said. As for the component cables, I actually came across a forum where people were saying that component cables can transmit video up to 1080i. I was throwing around the idea earlier and found Sony's ps3 component cable for around $20 on Amazon. I guess it would certainly be worth a shot.
Also, do you think that there could be a "master" menu on my TV, as changes to the picture settings from the menu only apply to the current video mode - the others are unaffected.
Disregard the last part of my response... I tried going through the menu and picture settings on all different video modes and while the other modes had more options than DVI did, there was not anything useful.
No luck with the component cable - it still cuts off part of the screen on all sides. For example, on the "main menu" (the first screen) of the PS3, in the upper-right hand corner it only shows "2/21 1:20 PM". Normally, there should be a clock symbol and some space after "PM".

I have tried adjusting all possible settings related to display or picture on both the TV and the ps3 and I have had no luck. There is a DVI video mode on the TV (like video-1, video-2, etc.) that I must use when I'm using the DVI input, and it does not have as many options in the menu as some of the other video modes do.
So I went out and bought a component cable, tried it out, and still no dice. Under the PS3's display settings menu, 480p works fine, 720p splits the screen into three squished screens, 1080i still cuts off about an inch or two from each side, and 1080p just makes the screen go crazy (static and lines).
Would it be worth it to try and have a TV repair man look at or "service" my TV (and is it expensive)? I wonder if it is a problem with this model TV, or if it is just a problem with my specific TV that could be fixed...
