Ice maker not dumping ice

After having the refridgerator unplugged for a couple hours, the ice maker is not dumping ice. There are ice cubes made, ready to dump. I tried raising and lowering the lever in the ice maker. I also checked the water supply...I am able to fill a glass of water from the water dispensor.

My daughter's Maytag MSD2454GRW side by side refrigerator freezer stopped making ice, but the water in the door still dispenses water.

I checked the ice maker and found that there was no water in the tray. I also notcied that there was some cracking of the black plastic around the heating element that causes the ice to release from the tray so that it can be dumped into the storage tray below. In addition, the element was not secured to the bottom of the unit, so I removed the unit so that it could be taken to the dealers for inspection and testing.

The deaaler sold them a new ice maker kit which included an ice maker, storage tray, hoses, wiring and water valve.

I installed the replacement unit, but the freezer still did not make ice, because the water did not fill the tray. At that point I decided that the water valve could be damaged, so I pulled thr refigerator out and removed the cover to the compressor and valves for the fill and water dispenser. I tested to see that there was power to the control valve. I got a reading of 120.3 vac.

The original valve was a double selonid unit with one controling the fill of the ice tray and the other controls the flow of water to the door.

The replacement valve was a single feed unit, only for the ice maker. I called the dealer and explained what I was seeing. He said the valve was most likely the problem and asked me to return the valve and he sold us a double unit.

I installed the double with no change to the operation. As I said at the beginning, we are getting water to the door dispenser, but no water flows to the ice tray.

I removed the fill hose extension at the top of the refigerator which transports water to the tray to be sure that it is not plugged. It is clean.

The only thing I have not tried is replacing the vertical hose from the fill valve to the large fill extension hose, however, I can see through the tube and it looks clean.

I am out of ideas and out of ice too!!

Make sure the freezer is at least 17 degrees or colder (colder is better). If you have a square cover on the end of the ice maker see if you can pull it off and press on the gear face (don't turn just press). That may clean the electrical contact springs and get it working again. Basically if ya got water, 17 degrees or colder you will get ice. Other than that the ice maker motor module is likely bad (broken gear, etc.). Pretty common.

Make sure there's no "alien" object that got clogged onto the ice dispenser itself.

Mine makes ice and does not dump it... unless the bin is out! I took out the bin to begin trouble shooting and had to stop to answer the phone. While on the phone, I heard the ice drop. Not sure how to fix it yet but it seems like the ice maker is lower than it should be.

SOURCE: My ice maker is crushing the ice despite the fact

the bottom of the tray has a rod attached to it that controls a flapper that opens up to allow the ice to pass thru without hitting the cutter or crush blades. this rod goes into a housing at the back of the freezer that has a solenoid switch that activates it to open it up. check to make sure all of these items are free of ice and in their proper position and or not broken. if this all looks good then you may have a bad solenoid switch.

My ice maker does not make ice but water does run to front of fridge plz Help ????

I can't make out the words in your picture so there is not a lot of information to go on, but I will give it a try. If yours is like my refridgerator, there are a couple of off switches for the ice maker. One is on the control panel like the one you tried to photograph. Mine selects crushed ice, cubed ice, or ice off. The other soff switch is the lever switch that sits over the ice cube reservoir inside the freezer and shuts off the ice maker when the reservoir is full. If this lever switch is stuck in the up position you will make no ice. You say that water runs out of the front. Another problem that I once had with my ice maker was that the plastic housing around the ice cube tray cracked. One tray of ice cubes was made but when the ice maker flipped the tray over to expel the ice cubes the cracked plastic prevented any torque on the tray and the ice cubes would not come out. When the tray returned to the upright position new water would flow onto the tray, but since it was already full of ice cubes the water would simply overflow into the ice bucket reservoir. It did this over and over until I had an ice sculpture in my freezer and reservoir instead of ice cubes.

HI, I have a KSRL25FRSS00 side by side. The icemaker fills with water and freezes, but doesn't dump the ice cubes. I've used a hair dryer on it to melt the ice a little and have got it to dump the...

There is a heater in the ice tray that is supposed to thaw the cubes a little bit so they don't stick to the edge of the tray. When the heater does not work the ice sticks and the motor wont dump them out. You can see more info and comments and how to here: http://www.appliancepartspros.com/repair-help/kitchenaid-refrigerator-ksrl25frss00-repair/ksrl25frss00-ice-maker-wont-dispense-ice.html

Water works on door but ice maker isn't making ice occasionally hear noise like trying to dump ice cubes but no ice

the water valve located on the back of the refrigerator that the water line is connected to could be bad. if no water is coming to the ice maker then it shouldn't have any ice or water in the ice mold. if it is empty you can try pouring enough water in the mold to make ice cubes. wait an hour or so and see if the ice maker dumps the ice. if it does you probably have a bad water valve.

if your ice maker has ice in it but had been making small cubes you should check to make sure you don't have a jam. small cubes could be from low water pressure or a blockage. if your refrigerator has a water filter it may be time to replace it if the water dispenser water pressure is also low.

I set the ice maker feature to make cubes with my samsung refrigerator rs2555sw. But the ice maker makes a ice chunk. All the cubes are frozen together with a flat and thick layer of ice on top..

Hi and welcome to Fixya.

Remove the front cover after the ice tray has dumped cubes and remove all of the water from your ice maker tray.

Then depress the test button on the bottom of the icemaker (in front on bottom) located about 1 inch from the lower rh corner.

The icemaker fill cycle should add just enough water to cover barely cover the tray. (see page 32 of the 25 Sept 2005 user's manual)

If it is overfilling the icemaker fill time / water level needs to be reduced on the ice maker module. A normal fill cycle is about 7.5 seconds.

Another thing that will cause larger cubes is high water supply (utility co) pressure.

A temporary fix would be to slowly close the refridgerator water supply line's shut off vavle so that the water flow restricts.

The real solution is to investigate ice maker fill time, and the function of the icemaker water supply solenoid vavle for possible Delayed closing of the internal diaphram.

GE side x side When ice maker switch is on, freezer warms up

It sounds like the ice maker is stuck in the harvest ( dump ) mode , in the area of mold heater activation . This area , heats up the ice mold to unfreeze the cubes , and keeps rotating to dump the cubes . This heater , gets hot enough to actually burn you if you touch the mold .
I would remove the 2 screws holding the ice maker , unplug from the ice maker receptical , and replace the ice maker .

GE TBX21ji Refridgerator/Freezer Factory Icemaker quit making ice

Normally, when the temp of the icemaker gets to about 14 degrees F, the icemaker goes into the harvest mode, turning on the mold heater and attempting to eject the cubes. When the heater has warmed the mold sufficiently to release the cubes, the ejector can continue and push out the cubes, then the icemaker fills with fresh water to beging to make a batch of ice again. Manually starting the cycle as you have done only allows the cycle to start without the temp sensor seeing the 14 degrees. The mold heating generally takes a couple minutes. If your mold heater or the temp sensor are not working, you will have to replace the icemaker, as they are not available as a repair parts.
