Nokia 6720 message icon keeps flashing

It can also indicate you have messages on your SIM that are not yet copied to your phone.

Go to messages -> Options -> SIM Messages and delete or copy these messages and the blinking icon should dissapear.

I have a flashing message icon......but my inbox, outbox and every other bok is clear....it needs to stop flashing at me.....

"Would suggest checking SIM messages, these do not appear in inbox.
1. Messaging
2. Options
3. SIM messages.
Clear out the messages.
These messages are stored on your SIM card, which does not have a lot of space.

Can not send or receive sms.though memory space is free 746Mb

Here "Not Enough Memory" Suggests either the SIM Memory is full or the Phone Memory is full. It has nothing to do with te Memory Card.

As you say there is only one SMS in the INBOX, I suggest you check the SIM Memory. It will be full. Delete some data from SIM memory. It shud work

Unabel to clear phone memory

Messages can only be stored on the internal memory of the phone and not the memory card.  The memory card is only used for media.
The best way to clear out your messages is to have a data cable or a bluetooth transmitter on you computer and install nokia PC Suite from Nokia.com.  There is a message management program that will allow you to clean up old messages stored in your cell phone.
If that isn't possible to do, the only other choice you have is to manually delete messages from you phone.
