Hi From the symptoms, you mentioned, ie playing CD's ok., Mpeg decoder chip is faulty. The new one supplied is a modified type. IC207, part no.6-707-406-01. Good luck. Capital98

Try isolating your speakers. We had a speaker that was damaged and sound was distorted. Found speaker was damaged and switched it out and it is fine.
Hope that helps

My neighbour's combi boiler auto diverter switch with the thermostat is the cause of the interference. I have asked him to contact his gas company to rectify the problem. I placed a mw radio with a blank station near it and he switched the boiler on and off and the noise was the same as I was receiving via the surround system. Hope that helps. If not get in touch with Ofcom as he is breaking the law regarding interference with TV sound and/or picture.

I have the same problem, and after trying everything I can think of to overcome the problem it turns out to be a faulty unit. If I turn my player off and back on again it works fine.

Try your dvd player on another tv with a different connection lead an see if this problem remains. If it does then you may have a problem with the sound output on the dvd player itself. If the sound is ok on the other tv that you try, then it will be the sound input on the tv that you had it on in the first place. I no you have said that the input/output ports are ok but if they have just moved abit then it can cause a picture problem or in your case a sound problem. They may just need to be put bk into place. Good Luck.

SOURCE: Is Sony DAV-S500 optical input compatible with optical output from Pioneer DVD player DV-566K?

I don't think this has an Optical but a Coaxial connection. You might try a coaxial audio cable not optical.

SOURCE: sound not loud Sony DAV-IS10

I think its the fact that the speakers are pretty tiny, even tho BOSE has proved that size doesnt matter. i will agree i have a descent size home and i have to max it out all the time to watch a movie
just a design flaw IMHO.

Do you have the manual?
I'd check there first. You'll probably need the remote as well.

Our Sony c 770 no longer plays DVDs or Cds but it still works as a receiver. Can we connect a DVD player to it and have it come thru the 5.1 speaker system?

Hi,
Yes, tis unit has 2 video inputs at rear so you can connect any other dvd player sound (analog or digital) to get 5.1 channel surround sound from DAV-C770 speakers.
Click Sony Support to download user manual copy of DAV-C770 that has more details about connection setup.
Hope this info will help you.
Thanks.

DVDs play in black and white

Try use connect your dvd player with just RCA(composite video) and see if you get regular color picture. If so,you need to go to the system menu to check the video output and see if it is under R Pr Pb-component video setting? If not,be sure to change it to component video setting AND use component video cable to connect to your TV unless your TV don't have this connection.

Component Video Connection

what you have done is you are sending a component video signal from your system to your tv and the sound i assume comes through the 5.1 surrond speakers. The DVD's you play the sound would naturally come from the 5.1 surround speakers, unless your instruct the dvd player to send the sound to the tv in which case will only be played as stereo. you will need inputs on your dav system to take sound from your tv outputs or digital box by way of red and white phono leads or a digital/optical input if you have them; so as to play the sound from cable tv or sattelite tv through your 5.1 surround speakers.
