This isnt a solution but an additional request for help since I dont think it takes much to "break the touchpad" I stored mine in my purse for a while the purse was full to a level of "cozy" but not cramped and my touchpad also stopped working properly!!!
According to creative, changing the sensitivity is supposed to help (how the heck is this supposed to help when you cant get to the menu option??), they also said reformat (i tried 3times it didnt work), and the other thing ive seen is people say take it apart and clean it, i have not been this ballsy as of yet but may try. one other thing is some one said this maybe temperature related that if its too cold it may not work properly. (didnt work for me either).
here is a solution.... http://www.zenrepair.com/Zen/index.jsp
he charges $50 to repair this issue (its probably not related to dropping it though because a lot of people are having this issue).
