Question about Whirlpool RF378 Electric Kitchen Range

1 Answer

Knob is popping

For one element of the range, whenever it is on, there is a popping sound that appears to come from the control knob. When using other elements, this does not happen. This only started happening recently, so as far as I know, it is not "normal" behavior. Is this something I can fix by myself? If so, can you point me in the right direction?

    The model no is RF378LXKQ
    It's the front left element.

Is there a way to easily tell if the other infinite switches are about to go out too? Any regular maintenance I should have been doing to prevent this? Thank you so much for your quick response and your help!

Mcrib, sounds like one of your infinite switches is going bad. This is not a hard fix, you can get to them by removing the back panel behind the control panel. I would give you the part number but I would need the whole model number and whether it was a left or right front or rear burner causing the problem. Catriver...post back

Mcrib, your part number is 3148954, no maintenence on these switches, sometimes they just go. Just replace the wires from the old to the new exactly. Under the knob there will be two small screws holding the switch to the panel. Pull the knob off. Make sure to have the power off to the oven. Catriver...post back.

Frigidaire glass top stove dual element ony works on high no matter were knob is set

Hello Chad;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service appliance technician.

It sounds like you have a bad Warmer Infinite Switch.

Once installed, the switch controls your gas range's warmer drawer element. When replacing your gas range's switch, consider replacing its knob (PartsDirect part number 316442403) if it shows significant wear.
To replace your gas range's warmer infinite switch, pull the knob off the switch and remove the screws securing it. Disconnect any wires running to the switch and take note of those connections. Remove the switch and put the new one into its place, reattaching the wires to the same terminals. Be sure to unplug your gas range before beginning the repair.

It is located on the right hand side of your display panel. You have to remove the side panels screws and control panel back to access.

Oven element will not turn off or reset after removing power. The temperature will not adjust.

It sounds like the control (the part behind the knob) is faulty and has developed a short circuit inside it. It is worth making sure the knob is actually turning the shaft, (if not sure take off the knob and grip the shaft with pliers turn all the way from one end to the other) I hope that helps

I have a jenn air model jer8850aaw replaced the bottom element and now the element will not shut off what could be the problem?

If the element wont shut off sounds like the oven thermostat control made be faulty, if its a manual knob you use to turn the oven on you'll need to replace it, but if its electronically controlled you'll need to replace what the call the erc or clock.

Front left element is in run-away mode; it keeps cycling on and off when the knob is in the off position.

The knob (also called thermostatic control) is stuck/broken. The burner is going on and off just as it does when it's in normal use. Just can't turn it off. Will probably need to replace the thermostatic control -- not easily repaired.

Kenmore Electric Range Model # 790.95664100 All display lights are off until you turn on a heating element control knob. Then the time display starts flashing "12:00" along with a short buzzing sound...

Sounds to me from the information you provided that the auto timer is set...when the auto timer gets set you are generally unable to use the oven. If the auto timer is not set then you are looking at a problem with the Electronic oven control..do any error codes show up f1 - f2 - f3 and so on?
