Cdr/dvd Hello I am having problems with my cdrw/dvd-rom.It is a quanta sdr-081 drive for a gateway solo 1400 laptop.I have cleaned optics, uninstalled then reinstalled drivers from many diferent web sites.Still having same problem cdrw/dvd will read dvd wonderfully,does not read cds.It seems like it is trying to read cds like a dvd.Can anyone help.Will be greatful.Thank you!

On ejecting the draw on my quanta sdrr-081 dvd-rom drive,the whole case slid out i shut down the computer and slid the case back in as i noticed it was just a plug in connection .re booted and re installed drivers to no joy.it is dead no l.e.d lighting checking in management tells me it's working fine but this drive is no longer visable in the my computer listing

The lazer might be going bad on the CD side instead of DVD side i recommend a new ROM drive

How to change the boot sequence in gateway solo 1400

Restart your computer
During the boot process you will see on the screen to press a certain key to enter setup

Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS using the arrow keys scroll down to advanced bios features press enter to change boot devices
press f10 to save to cmos escape then restart your computer

if you need to change any of the settings using the arrow keys if you have made any changes that has compromised your computer
you can go back and load failsafe or optimised defaults

Lite on DVD Combo disk read failure

You could take the drive out of the encloser and hook it up. There could be a flaw in the enclouser ive had that happen before to me. I just took it out and put it in standard if this dosent work then there is a flaw in the dvd burner

what do you mean not recognized? not detecting the drive or not reading? if not recognized by windows you can check the driver for drives in the windows if not reading it is the lens problem..if the lens problem, the solution only is to replace the lens or to replace the whole drive

DVD+/- Gateway issue DVD won't burn DVDs but plays them

I had the same problem. I finally got a knowledgeable tech at Gateway who knew that a patch had to be downloaded. I'm sorry but I don't have the link anymore but you might be able to find it in there white papers now that you know that it exists

wel the driver should be the same for all of them sounds like your driver for cdrw is about kaput or shot mite need cleanig or a new cdrw installed.
