I had this problem a couple of times. Turned out the battery didn't have enough juice. At least that's what worked for me.

Charge your MP3 player.
The battery might just be dead, in which case letting it charge for a few hours corrects the problem.
Plug the USB data cable into the USB port on the MP3 player and insert the other end into one of the USB ports on your computer.
In a moment, the computer states that it has detected the removable device.
Sometimes the MP3 player needs to update itself, and it can only do so while connected to a computer.
When the MP3 player detects the computer, it attempts to connect to the Internet and retrieve any system updates available for the device.
Replace the battery.
The battery is usually the first part of the MP3 player to go (especially after excessive use). Although you can manually change the battery on most MP3 players, you need to send your
Apple products (iPod, iPod Nano, iPod Touch, iPhone) into the company so they can change the battery for you.
Purchase a new MP3 player.
If your MP3 player has received any sort ofwater damage, it is not going to turn on at all and there is nothing you can do to fix the issue.
hope this helps
