This command not only resets your graphics driver, which may repair the black screen on its own, but it also sounds a buzzer. Windows is responsive if you hear a beep. It sounds as though the backlight has failed or shutdown for some reason. You can confirm this by putting a flashlight against the screen and seeing if there is any picture visible. The fact that no OSD or menu is visible leads me to think that you have no backlight. However, if you can see that screen is lit, then don't waste you time trying this. Hope this helps.
So you DO have a backlight but no picture. With no OSD or menu showing, the only things left are the video process board or the panel (and the TCON board). The TCON board is the address board for the panel which tells which pixels to turn on. On some sets, the TCON board is supplied with the panel, on others it can be replaced separately. Has to be one of the two. Unfortunately you will need a technician to narrow it down for you. Sorry I couldn't be of further assistance.
Here are my suggestions for finding service. Choose a servicer that is au authorized provider for Toshiba products. Avoid the places the promise free estimates as they tend to get their money from you in other ways. I wouldn't suggest you just buy a video board and try and put it in yourself; if it's the panel that's failed, you'll be stuck with a video board, since most places won't take back parts that have been used. If you have further questions, please feel free to ask. I'm here to help in any way that I can.
Bappa,
May I ask why you are suggesting polaroid parts for a Toshiba unit?
Norcodad,
Since the warranty has just expired, I would not hesitate to contact Toshiba to see if they will offer some type of accommodation on the repair. Many times, the manufacturer will offer to pay parts, labor or some portion thereof. Hope this helps.
You can start here:

to loacte a servicer in your area. I'm assuming you're in the US, pardon me if I'm wrong

You neeed to try to reset hdmi setting , turn off the tv for a min. , turn back on tv then turn back hdmi settings , if resetting the hdmi doesn't work un hook all connected cables , turn off tv and unplug from the wall , leave unplugged for a half hour at least , then try again. if all this don't work then a component inside is failing and will need testing or the video board replaced
electech
if theres a reset button on the back off the set press it , if not then you have to unplug all cables shut down the tv unplug it for a while , if that don't work then it needs repair
try unpluging the tuner box, have you tried that also?
are you using cable , sat , or other source for tv channles?
unplug that .
any other video inputs on the tv may also be causing no video , make sure nothing is hooked up then do a reset of tv , if it still will not give you video , then it for sure needs repair
hope you aren't expecting me to help you now

Hi there,
i would like to know what is the tv model, and did you hear any sound coming from the tv. and the led lights status on the front panel of the tv.
let me know
Remove all the connections and wait for a minute and then 1 by 1 replug all the connections and then try.
some times this helps.
Reset your diaplsy setting s to factory defaults.
also check your power supply waltage and earthing properly working
The TV is going in protect mode because it detects an internal problem, try leaving it unplugged for a longer time, let say one hour or two.
Basically, what happens is that the TV does not start because it detects that there is an internal problem, such as a wrong voltage, a bad component, overheating etc.
When you unplug power and restart it, you reset the internal circuit, and the TV will restart, not detecting the internal problem.
As soon as the TV gets hot, after staying on for a while, the defective part start giving troubles, as the defective component (probably an IC, starts overheating).
As already pointed by the other expert, from description, the digital processing board. can be cause for the problem as there is no video.
However all the following parts can be involved.
Parts involved can be
Polaroid digital processing board.
Polaroid replacement ballast.
Polaroid Replacement LCD controller

I cannot "reset" to factory settings as I cannot see the screen or operate the menu to do so. Also, all power settings are working. Let me clarify. I'm listening to CNN right now. It's just that there is nothing, I mean nothing coming through the screen output but backlighting. There is no picture. Menu controls even do not appear.
Unplugging did nothing. or did having it unplugged and off all niht last night. It's only on now because I need my news fix! At least I can listen!
The stand by light works and flashes three times before turning on...just as it always has. Honestly, wth the exception of no picture signal, just a black (but lit) screen, the T.V. works EXACTLY as it did before. I can listen to the t.v. as if it were working fine. In fact, when it stopped working I didn't notice. My back was to the t.v. the sound was working and when I turned around, there was no picture.
Actually, the backlight works just fine. There's no video feed from the T.V. Not the receiver, but the T.V. itself. That's why I can't even see the control graphics.
Am I totally hosed here? The warranty just expired too.
Tuner box has been un plugged before. It is again, but this seems as if what I'm dealing wit here is a dead video card...as in it simply died. Where do I go to fix that nd what kind of cost am I looking at?
I am at my wit's end here and your (and that of the expert who mentioned the video card) opinion makes the most (and most unfortunate) sense.
How can I go about getting this repaired?

i like to play my xbox and after about 30-45 minutes of playing the tv turns black. but i can still hear my xbox and all the sound, just no picture. i have found that if i leave my tv off for about 15-20 minutes, when i turn the tv back on, the picture works. but then the tv's picture shuts down and i have to repeat the process.
there is a faint illumination but no picture just a "lit up" black screen, audio seems fine
