Our television will come on for one second, and then go blank (whether TV or DVD). The sound remains fine, but screen is completely black. Can use the remote and TV buttons (guessing obviously as menu doesn't appear on the black screen!). Have tried the obvious turn on/off. Any ideas / advice?
When the screen goes black, shine a flashlight on the screen to see if you can see a faint picture. If you can then the ballast board for the backlight is bad. If you can't see a faint picture, then the T-CON board needs replacing. You can get parts from here:

This can be solved with software release version V1.1.0 (or higher) that is now posted on the Philips web site. Go to the software section for download and more information or click here.
The procedure is listed below:

go to www.ceusasupport.philips.com and upgrade your televisions software to the latest version. this is a very common issue.
SOURCE: Black screen with sound. Problem on every channel.
If your tv have t296xw01 auo lcd panel the problem is a broken transformer at the inverter boar.

I'm not sure what type of TV you are using,, but most all Large Screens have a reset button someplace. You should be able to reset the TV and fix the problem. Its not the remote, making the image appear, but a command from it was misinterpeted. Sometimes turning the set off will work, but most often it needs to be reset.
EXCEPTION... if you are using a cable box. Disconnect it from power, wait 1 minute and then see if the problem exists. If the cable box is on even with the DVD you may still have this issue. Please reset the cable, and if that doesn't work, reset the TV.
Thanks! //D

verify in customer menu, installation, software upgrade, current software info that software is 1.5.0.0. if not upgrade by downloading from p4c.philips.com website and upgrade via usb memory stick. if upgrade is successful and menu still pops up would be a small signal board issue
Hello, I need more information to focus on the problem. When a malfunction occurs, whether you get any indication on the screen while pressing the menu button on the remote control. Is the voice remains in issue. What happens with the waiting lights.
