Re: NO PICTURE, JUST A HIGH PITCH NOISE, SMELLS LIKE...
Very common problem with these sets. The High Voltage transformer and the horizontal output transistor is most likly the problem.. If you know the saftey issues involved and know how to solder and unsolder, you can repair this set but theres a possibility you could also have a fault in the horizontal driver circuit, such as l401. if your not a tech its best to have this set fixed by a trained tech, if you wnt to spend between 175 to 225.00 Good Luck

A high pitch sound can be a capacitor losing power it would sound a bit like a fire work. most have back up on the board but it put more pressure on them the more times you use the tv. would check them and replace. all of them can be 5 in a row in some models.
The LOT [Line Output Transformer] of your TV has damaged. It is the one, that supply all the voltaged needed to CRT. Its internal windings will get shorted in between, and is irreparable. Replacement is the only remedy to this proble. Replace the horizontal output transistor also with this. you haven't specified whether there is picture with your tV or not. If this high frequency sound is along with picture, there is some loose in the cores of the SMPS transformer, or LOT itsef. If there is no picture at all, and this high frequency sound is there, no doubt; LOT is damaged. OK.
If it weren't for the high pitch whining noise. I would say it probably is an internal fuse inside the chasis. It is rated at 1.5 to 2.0 amps. With the whining noise it sounds like a trouble shooting bench
job. Problems occur when a electrical/electronics device is turned on and turned off. Inrush voltage,
when it is turned on, can go up to three times more than normal. This also happens at turn off. Solid state components usually fail at this time. I don't feel that this is a problem that can be fixed in the home.---BBB
Symptoms of a Defective or dying Power supplies on LCD TVs.
1. Light(s) on the front panel are behaving not normal example, blinking, amber color or not steady, fainting, etc.
2. TV not turning ON properly.
3. TV turns OFF by itself.
4. Needs to be unplug to many times to make it work.
5. Humming or high pitch noise heard through speakers or at the back of the TV.
Rarely picture tube also shows the same symptom. High pitch sound is due to through deflection area LOT power supply is loaded. Compulsary horizontal output transister short. From your statement i think Lot puncture takes place. Change LOT and horizontal output transister and check tv is now working.
