I have the same problem. I have 2 ,1 on each of my daily chop saws. I have had them for about 10 years so I will just buy a new one. For the record a few times I had a wood chips blocking the lens.
Good luck
Nigel.

Mine did the same thing. I think it's a bad contact situation. I ended cleaning all the contact springs in the battery compartments and also putting a small dab of silicon on each battery before re-fitting the cover plate. This made sure the batteries were nice and snug in their housings. Make sure the batteries all have have the positive symbol (+) upwards when you refit them. You can also check the centrifugal switch. This is located under a triangular plastic cover. If you hold the batteries in place with your thumb, you can gently push the tiny weight against its contact and the laser should light up. DON'T LOOK DIRECTLY INTO THE LASER WHILE YOU DO THIS!!! This worked for me but I can't give any guarantees but, hey, what have you got to lose? Good luck.
The way it works is when it spins the spring part touches the other conductor. I had this problem but slightly and very carefully bent/moved the straight conductor toward the spring without them touching and has worked perfectly ever since with a visible line even in sunlight. If you unscrew the cover there will be a black plastic piece underneath, take that off and that is where the straight and spring conductors are. Be sure to put the plastic triangle back on and the cover screwed back on.
you should be able to adjust blade up a little bit, you only want blade to cut through tile bout 1/4 inch ,should be big knob you lossen to lift up motor and blade good luck
should have blade lock button remove blade with proper size wrench reinstall new blade in reverse remember some of these the loosening of the blade will be clockwise so if nut dont come loose try clockwise to loosen good luck
