Re: Maxtor External 100GB one touch II. Installed back in 2005. Because of software installation problem I called "800" number. My O.S. is XP. The Maxtor rep walked me through a change which told me to use 6.0 and not Express HD. I don't remember his correcting steps. My OS reinstall caused me to lose the altered software. I had to reinstall Maxtor without that change. Could I get a good software install CD for my Maxtor 100 GB Onetouch II ? Cost?

Tried to download the Retrospect Express HD update for Maxtor one-touch. After download I tried to run but I get the error msg "not a valid Win32 application". Why? Also, which should I download? -DE, -EN, -ES, -FR, -IT, or -JP? Give me the exact name of the download that I need. Thanks.

You can download the software from here:

http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/onetouch_ii/

Once downloaded save it on your hard drive and then burn it on a CD.

Thanks

Trying to get my maxtor II to work with windows 07 software but it wont read the usb connection? After i have installed the software for maxtor.

Check Control Panel, System, Device Manager and make sure windows see's the connection. If you see a yellow triangle, that means the drivers are not correct. If you don't see it at all, that is a problem. Give Maxtor a call. You may need to update your motherboard bios, chipset drivers. At worst, you might have a problem with the motherboard or maxtor II device.

I have a Maxtor one touch 2 external hard drive,serial#2dd10020,worked fine on Windows XP,I'am now using it on Windows 7,it shows up in computer as drive Z,I cannot unlock it to get to my files, any help...

ok for one your computer no matter what OS you are using stores no drive letter , a drive letter is only given in the order as it is
installed on your system for example if you use 2 internal HDD
and one external HDD your computers C: drive will be the master
the F: will be the slave and the external will be G: , now if you have changed the order of the drives from your last OS then it
will conflict to the last drive letter given , your unit will know
what letter it was given so it must be in the same location for
the new OS , there is also the possibility that Windows 7 doesn't
support the driver for that unit , you can try hooking it up to
another computer retrieving your data , then hooking it back
up to windows 7 run its software , then installing the data back
into your HDD

Maxtor One Touch II - installation Software

I have a disk that worked for me and I am running windows xp. I also have the website address that is supposed to have the 98 drivers which could work perhaps. http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.jsp?locale=en-US&name=Maxtor_OneTouch_Drive_USB/Win98SE_Driver&vgnextoid=b07d8b9c4a8ff010VgnVCM100000dd04090aRCRD

Guess you could try them first and if that doesnt work I could perhaps make a backup of the disk/package/mail/ worth anything?

Maxtor one touch II

This doesn't require downloading anything, installing anything, or holding your mouth in a certain way.

1) Plug the drive into power and into your Vista PC's USB port.
2) When the 'Found New Hardware' wizard pops up, click the recommended option. When it says it can't find the drivers, select 'Show me other options', and then Browse your computer for drivers. Choose the C:\ drive, and click next.**

**The key here is that Windows Vista comes pre-installed with the drivers for the Maxtor external hard drives. So they're on your PC, even if the Wizard tells you they're not.

4) Wait a few minutes, and yo will see a window that reads, "The software for this device has been successfully installed," and now it will appear as a drive letter under 'Computer'.

thanks RP

Maxtor One Touch II - installation Software

Maxtor is now owned by Seagate, and yes, you can go to http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/installation_assistance/installation_instructions/external_drives_&_personal_servers/ot2
Hope that helps, i am trying to get my Maxtor External II working now too, I think it's a power supply, cause it wants to keep installing the driver, but the driver is already there. Hmmm anybody?

Maxtor OneTouch II 300Gb can't recover data after a system restore

Hi,

I had the same problem a few weeks ago.

The way I solved my problem was to make sure when I restored Windows to the default settings that I did it up to the same support packs and hot fixes then when backing up the system with the Maxtor HD. It took me many days to figure this out... was written it the Maxtor HD documentation and it works fine.

Hope this helps.
