Question about Epson UB S01 (C823361) Serial Adapter
Believe the serial adapter (epson ub-s01) got a power surge and is damaged. interchanged one from another epson printer and have isolated that the card is the problem. have a local electronic board repairman but want to know if there is a typical part that gets zapped from surges to save time and money in repair. don't see any obvious damage. i have purchased a new one online but want to repair for a backup since this has happened several times with other printers we operate. thanks, doug mitchell
We're an EPSON repair center and I can tell you that typically the UB-S01 is the culprit. For the low cost of the part it would be much more expensive and time consuming to fix it. We throw them in the trash can. If you want to avoid the damage from power on the card look at buying an APC PNET1. It protects CAT5 cables. Most EPSON UB-S01 adapaters are connected to a 25 pin to RJ45 adapter. The data is then sent through the CAT5 and converted back at the source end to RS232 DB9. If you place a PNET1 inline with the adapaters it should stop any future spikes on the card. Good luck.
